Who else is a fan of this movie? Not a classic western by ANY means, but it wasn't meant to be. It's pretty over-the-top ridiculous at times, but very FUN to watch and highly rewatchable. I mean, it's an entire movie dedicated to a quick draw competition, how could it not be fun? It's helped by the fact that Gene Hackman plays a great villain, while Leo and Russell Crowe play solid supporting roles.
Agreed. Who gives a shit if it's not a classic western? The Last Dragon ain't a classic martial arts movie. It's fun to watch. And it's not like it's poorly acted - far from it. Any movie with Hackman, DiCaprio, and Crowe as the three leading men isn't gonna be a poorly acted flick.
Definitely a fun film. Hackman owns in it. I think this was Crowes first aborted attempt at taking over Hollywood if I'm not mistaken. Ended up getting 'discovered' after L A Confidential. Has since become a massive, massive cunt.
Yeah, Sharon Stone was technically suppose to be the star, but really, it's Gene Hackman's movie. With a lesser actor than Hackman playing the villain, it's likely not a watchable movie. "This is my town! If you live to see the dawn, it's because I allow it! I decide, who lives and who dies! Your gun fighter is dead. Old news..."
Yep. Fun movie and somehow I felt I should have and would like to have seen it more than I did but it just never seemed to come on cable very often. As much as I liked it and as good as he was the movie feels way beneath Gene Hackman and like a project he was supposed to pass on.
Hackman seemed like he was having fun in QATD. Just like he seemed he was having fun in The Birdcage. Whereas in a movie like Enemy of The State, he seemed like he didn't wanna be there.
