Chavez was a slightly more talented Rocky Juarez.

Here's a question. Could Canelo have rolled out of the corner against Chavez the way he repeatedly did against GGG?

Literally? Yes because he's like 40 pounds bigger lol

If Golovkin was as good at cutting off the ring as Chavez was? No

Lol the fuck? They're both excellent at it. I don't see how he's any worse at that aspect of boxing.

Who do you think is harder to hit, Camacho or Alvarez?

Chavez landed more shots on him than the previous 20 guys combined

Clearly I am talking pound for pound.

Imo so is Golovkin. He lacks Chavez' compact and deadly punching and probably the all-time great chin too

Yep. I know we all sometimes say ridiculous things, and even if we believe him we kind of know they're ridiculous.

But there's nothing absurd about that statement, in fact I'm genuinely surprised people disagree.

Golovkin is an incredible boxer and one of the best pressure fighters I've ever seen. He was 345-5 as an amateur ffs, and even though he is now 35, he's dominated practically everyone he's fought as a pro.

And for a guy with supposedly bad defense, he's actually Top 10 for opponents' connect % according to Compubox http://compuboxonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/CompuBox-Category-Leaders-2-3-14.pdf

I see almost nothing that Chavez does better than Golovkin tbh. Golovkin has a better jab - the best in boxing, better footwork, more power, more creative attacks, more versatility, and a better chin. He even has a higher workrate, despite being several weightclasses bigger. Chavez is slightly more accurate, I'll give him that. As others pointed out, accuracy is the one thing about Chavez that really stands out, he was very accurate.

And for some perspective, Chavez was closer to his prime when he got battered by Randall and De La Hoya (only 31 and 34, and hardly shot looking) than Golovkin is now, still being undefeated, and having beaten 3 excellent fighters in a row.

Golovkin has one of the best chins I've ever seen. He has fought 3 people who can punch, and even then the punches just bounced off his chin like nothing. His chin is incredible.

We all know prime is not always dictated by age. Chavez had many more fights than Golovkin by the time he faced Randall. I'm with you. I think GGG is great, and definotely underrated in the wake of the Jacobs and Canelo fights. But he has not proven himself better than Chavez yet, imo.

Dude the last paragraph... just stop already

Why do people pull this obvious fallacy out so often?

Age is a terrible marker for comparisons between boxers, especially when one turns pro at 15 or so and the other in his mid 20s, never mind the guy that turned pro as a kid had more than twice as many fights

I think Chavez was a MUCH BETTER fighter than Triple G, honestly.

Better defense, better body puncher, better at cutting off the ring, and a better inside fighter.

Golovkin is an exceptional fighter and one of my favorites but he is overrated on this forum.

I think I would make Chavez the slight favorite. At least at 135, where he seemed to peak during his short time there, and Floyd had some struggles.

Floyd sometimes was overly selective with his punches that he would lose rounds by getting outworked on the ropes by guys applying pressure. Even 2007 Oscar did way better than he had any business doing at that stage in his career, winning 4 rounds, outworking Floyd and picking off a lot of his shots. JCC was obviously a better pressure fighter in his prime than the guys Floyd faced.

Floyd may have a slight edge at 130 and 140, but it’s a very close matchup either way. Floyd having Roger in his corner might actually make a differnce since he fought Chavez twice, had a similar style to his nephew, and the matchup being so close to begin with.

Weight class matters big time in Floyd vs Chavez.

135 is best Chavez's best bet, I can agree with that.

I think Floyd was better at both 130, and 140.

I just don’t think Floyd faced a style as troublesome as Castillo at those weights. Had he faced a Castillo type stylist on the elite level at either weight he’d have had similar difficulties. As it so happens, Chavez was just that, except better in every way. He wasn’t quite as big, though. Didn’t have the same length.
