Because it was a disgrace, and this is what a lot of people will remember him for, regardless of everything he's done before. Just think it's a shame he's gone out this way.

This was the biggest fight of his career. He was getting out-boxed and he fought negatively the entire time. Even if the hand injury it doesn't excuse everything that preceded it. If there's shame it's on Rigo.

Prior to the fight a lot of hardcore fans on forums picked Rigo to win. As did a lot of fighters and trainers.

I agree with all that though, it was a disgrace.

I dunno, it's a bit like the Sonny Liston thing, people remember him for quitting and the phantom punch, not the stuff he did before. That's what will happen with Rigo and yeah it's his own doing, but I just think it's a shame.

Yeah same. I do rate Mikey highly, very good fighter, but I've always thought Loma beats him.

Do You WANT Your Favorite Sport to Get MAINSTREAM Attention or Not, Bruh???...

Stephen A. Smith is as MAINSTREAM as it Gets, for a Current Sports Personality...Bitch about his VOLUME, the WAY he Presents his Takes or Even his KNOWLEDGE, Whatever, but Recognize He Gives a Take & MILLONS of People Listen...He's a CASUAL Boxing Fan, MAYBE Slightly More Learned, and he TALKS ABOUT Boxing, On Air...He Doesn't HAVE to Talk about Boxing...Wouldn't Affect his Appeal or Financial Bottom Line @ All...But Dude WANTS to Talk About Boxing...Call REED Crazy, but he'd Rather Have SOMEBODY Talking Boxing than NOBODY Whatsoever....

To the MAINSTREAM Fan, Stephen A. Smith HEIGTENS a Sports Event..."Shit, it MUST Be a Big Fight if Stephen A.'s Working It"...That's the Thought Process of MILLIONS of Casual Boxing Fans...MAINSTREAM Fans Watch ESPN's "SportsCenter" Every Night, and Guess What? The Fight will Be a FEATURED Topic for the Next Several Hours...That's Been the Case Since Pac-Horn Earlier this Summer and REED Looooooooooooooooooves it...Sports Radio Stations are Talking about the Fight Too, Immediately After.....

Stephen A. and Teddy's Exchanges are More Tongue-in-Cheek Than Anything Else...You Can TELL They Like Each Other and their Debates are HILARIOUS...Teddy's a LEGIT, Ol' School Boxing Guy, and he's On Equal Footing w/THE Preeminent Sports Talk Personality in Mainstream America, for that Moment...That's GOOD for Boxing, Even if the Characters or their Methods GRATE..

Seriously, a Lot of Us Have Spent 10-15 Years on THIS Site, Arguing About Boxing...Getting to WATCH a Boxing Argument on "SportsCenter" is Pretty Fucking COOL in REED's Opinion...

Rigo started at 122 while Lomachenko beat Gary Russell in his 3rd fight at 126. I really doubt he is afraid to move to 135. Lomachenko is a little bigger than Rigo but the bigger factor is what you mentioned later, age. Lomachenko is way closer to his prime.

Rigo landed 15 punches in 6 rounds. Less than 3 per round. So much for Rigo being able to land on Loma.

LARGEST Captive Audience of his Pro Career Too...

MOST Viewers had NEVER Seen Guillermo Rigondeaux Fight and After a Night Like This they WON'T Afford him the Luxury of Youtubing his Bouts to Familiarize Themselves w/How GREAT He Really Was...REED Fights this Battle All the Time in Regards to Roy Jones, w/Black Millennial Boxing Fans...

It's Patently Unfair, But THIS Will Be How Guillermo Rigondeaux is Remembered to Casuals...

I don't get the Roy Jones comparison. Millennial or not if they're a boxing fan they don't need to look the guy up. Roy was a P4P superstar.

TRUE Boxing Interest is SPAWNED During the Era a Person STARTED Watching the Sport, for Better or Worse...

The Typical Black, "Money May" Era, Millennial Boxing Fan KNOWS the Name "Roy Jones", yet Has Little to NO Appreciation of WHY They Should Know His Name...Maybe Their Dad or Uncle Spoke of Roy, but to That Fan, Roy is the "Past Prime Dude that Gets KO'ed a Lot"...

REED Fights the Good Fight by Specifying Roy Fights They Should Peep and Quite a Few have Admittedly Come Back IMPRESSED...But @ the Same Time, There's a LOT of Highlight Reels of Roy's KO LOSSES, Brother Whiskey...

Reminds REED of the Kid that ONLY Saw the Washington Wizards Version of Michael Jordan and Thinks his Greatness is OVERRATED, in Comparison to Kobe or LeBron...

The worst thing is that the quit job removed the possibility of Loma getting an impressive performance out of this. It was a chess match, and he Rigo quit before he even got the chance to show what he can really do

I called stoppage in the championship rounds but at least I’ve said rigondeaux was too old and small and that the deck was stacked against him. I didn’t that level of dominance though. Loma was faster and lighter on his feet than him.

Rigondeaux went out like a sucka

That said I never pegged him as a balls out warrior. His twitter person talked that type of shit but mostly to get/sell the fight.

Bottom line here was activity. Rigondeaux needed to be sharp to even compete with a bigger, younger man who is easily top 5 in the world. Fighting 3 rounds in 3 years ain't gonna prepare you to face this type of talent

He wasn't able to land any left hands flush that may or may not have changed the fight. But you could tell lomachenko was aware of that early on and fought accordingly. A sharper younger rigondeaux would have been a different outcome, though not necessarily a different result

The funny thing about Stephen Smith is that he himself fought Francisco Vargas tonight, and suffered a much more HORRIFIC injury than Rigondeaux

If it's Accurate That This is INDEED the 4th Consecutive Time a Foe has QUIT Against Lomachenko, that's IMPRESSIVE as Fuck...

The NATURAL Reaction is to Question the COURAGE of the Quitter, but 4 Guys in a Row???...There's Obviously SOMETHING About Lomachenko That REDUCES Very Good Fighters to Quitters....
