George Foreman v Anthony Joshua

Discussion in 'Mythical Matchups' started by Rich ´Money´ Mustard, Feb 25, 2018.

  1. Joe Bugner was much bigger than Joe Frazier and had very servicable power in ´74

  2. Joe Bugner? Is that what you're coming with? haha

  3. Good enough to go the distance in 3 fights with Ali & Frazier.

  4. Yeah but he wasn't a monstrous puncher...which is the point. Neither was he huge like Joshua.

  5. 6'5"
Joshua's not a monstrous puncher either.

Sly completely denigrates every one of Ali's opponents especially ones that beat him but he would never pick against Ali in any MM ... it's really odd

  7. It's only odd to an idiot. In MMs I'm always referring to 60s Ali and that Ali was never beaten.

There's no doubt AJ can hit. But he is not a puncher on the level of Foreman, Tyson, or Lewis. I don't think his size alone gets a similar result to George.

For AJ to beat Frazier, he'd have to grind him down. And in a trench war, you do have to wonder how AJ holds up against a guy with underrated defense and an incredible workrate. AJ can be hurt to the body. And Frazier was adept at coming around with left hooks and right hooks downstairs.

I'm not saying AJ has no chance. But to suggest AJ bombs out an all time great the likes Fraziwr early doors, is something I personally cannot picture consider the attributes Joe brings.

So his 60s opponents must be really something then... certainly better than all these awful bums he lost to or barely beat in the 70s, no?

Yeah but he lost to GEORGE FOREMAN... this means he's awful

Yeah, it's completely non-sensical. I also really like how the layoff explains every loses of Ali career (absurdity at its finest, considering Ali wasn'T even 30 when he got spanked by Frazier).

But then, Sly vision of boxing is influenced by comic books.

I like to counter that with "Ali couldn't beat Frazier until after he'd been ruined by Frazier" lol

I've been rewatching a few ali fights recently. He's not as fast as I rebembered him to be, and he used his height a lot. Wonder how he would have dealt with the shw a la Wlad, Fury, AJ and Lewis

I think the film quality back then probably played a role in making Ali look slower than he really was.

He was a pure out fighter, though. Hardly fought inside or mid range.

I dunno what the Hell you're watching then.

    I re-watched Ali-Williams two weeks ago, and I re-watched Ali-Liston 1 about three months ago.

The man had remarkable handspeed for a heavyweight, and no heavyweight today comes close to his speed.

Has nothing to do with the film quality, JOM has no idea what he's talking about.

Learn how to read. I never said he was slow, nor that HW today were faster than him. It seems that you are easily confused.

  19. What’s the world coming to when I’m being criticized by some French Arab!

Everyone knows that ‘67 Ali and 71 Ali are two different beasts. Don’t take my word for it, watch the footage yourself. 71 Ali would have had a hard time with sonny Liston make no mistake.

  20. So you watch Ali against Liston, Foley, Terrel and Patterson the first time and see the same guy who fought Norton and Foster?

  21. Frazier wasn’t awful he’s just overrated. Tyson would have wiped him out in 2 rounds or less

They are not really different. Ali against Quarry looked as good as ever. One fight before Liston pre-exile Ali was getting floored hard by bum ass Cooper

And what's the point of constantly bringing my ethnicity?

So you see Folley, Terrell and Patterson and conclude they are as good as Joe Frazier or Kenny Norton?

Joshua is not 'a puncher'. What a load of shite such a position is.

That's what he sees. In other words, he sees nothing worth seeing.

LOL @ Joshua blowing Joe Frazier over in a handful of rounds. What is this based on? Joshua's fabulous record of laying excellent HW's out? His career best performance (by a mile) is coming from the brink to beat a 40yr old man with a glass jaw by ref stoppage in 11 rounds. His next best win isn't even worth commenting on. Yet here he is, smashing Joe Frazier, one of the toughest motherfuckers ever to lace 'em up and a remorseless threshing machine, inside a few rounds.

Once Joshua loses, Sly will abandon him like a cheap tart at 10am on a hungover Saturday morning.

He's a puncher. Not a great one, but a fairly good one

Frazier in general is underrated. Often dismissed in mythical match ups. Not just on this forum, but seemingly everywhere.

And this is coming from an AJ fan. I like him. Think he's good for the sport. Very good fighter. But yeah I cannot picture him blowing out Joe Frazier, Foreman style. Not to mention, that the Ali fight took a lot out of Joe as well. I believe both Joe and Ali were not quite the same after that first fight. And I'm not suggesting Joe beats Foreman, but maybe it isn't quite so easy for George had he faced a 71 Frazier. Not to mention, that the styles factor favored George the way no other has favored another in boxing history.

While it's arguable that nostalgia can be overrated, I think this new generation in general finds a way to overrate all that is current, all the while not knowing of the past greats. Simply put, Joe fucking Frazier is not going to be blown out in 3 rounds by AJ. That is just not forseeable.

Agreed, when I was young I wasn't thinking much of him, because of the foreman blow out. But after seeing pretty much all of his fights, the guy was a machine

Relative to his size, I don't think Joshua is that much of a puncher. He's a very big lad, and so naturally can hurt people with shots, but he isn't exactly knocking people out with single shots.

Sly was comparing him to George Foreman...
