Anyone here have any guilty pleasure reality TV shows (Including if you watch it because your wife watches it)? Duck Dynasty? Deadliest Catch? Keeping up with the Kardashians? Real Wives of xxxxx? Big Brother? Survivor? The Bachelor? The Amazing Race?
"Deadliest Catch" "Gold Rush" "Bar Rescue" Sometimes I'll watch those "Tree House", or "Tiny House" building shows. "60 Days In" "Alone"
There is no such thing as reality tv. As soon as the camera lights come on everyone tries to be a star. Not to mention all this shit you dumbasses watch is scripted. The only reality tv is the candid camera show. That's it.
So you're aware of it yet you enjoy it? ugh. Don't you feel like they're insulting your intelligence?
You mean, like any other scripted show or movie? Either it's entertaining or it's not. I don't really care what medium they're using. Most of the shows I watch have elements of "reality" mixed in with some made up drama or whatever. "Deadliest Catch", these fella's are in actual danger for a good portion of their lives. Some interactions might be embellished, but most of it is just guys fishing and trying to not fall off their boats while in 30 foot seas in the middle of the winter. Some of the shows I watch, I can admit they might objectively be "shit", but that's why they're called "guilty pleasures". Some of them I'll watch with the family specifically to have fun pulling apart how bullshit they are (ie. "60 Days In").
that's cool then. What drives me nuts is when I hear women discuss some scripted b.s and they're freaking out omg I can't believe he said that to her omg no way she's gonna go and do this or that.... and I'm talking grownass women too... this is exactly the same as nerds thinking wrestling is real. Stupidity like that just bothers me.
I loathe any of the shows that follow people's "real" lives. I enjoyed Kitchen Nightmares if that's considered reality TV. Hell's Kitchen on the other hand is atrocious. Some home renovations shows are OK and others are shit. (once again I don't know if they fall into the same category)
That tree house show is cool. I have seen it a couple times. There is a similar show called bush craft that is also interesting. I've caught American Pickers too - that show is pretty good.
I love me some Deadliest catch, Dragons Den (Shark Tank), Survivor and...I'm embarrassed to say...The Bachelor. Back in the day I loved The Apprentice franchise also...until it turned to Celebrity Apprentice which I thought was stupid. Trump was great in that show. Yes Reality shows are mostly scripted and I also hate the ones that follow peoples lives (refuse to watch them) because those one are definitely 95% + scripted. Some of you know that I featured on a reality TV show before, and having experienced it I can tell you that while it was mostly unscripted, there were parts where the producers forced us to do certain things for the sake of the cameras.
Lifestyles of the rich and not so famous. Yeah, I don't understand those shows at all, and there's like a million of them on. Funny thing I noticed just skipping across these shows on the tele. Why does it seem like every one of these gimps think they have a music career of some sort? Whether it's some Old Desperate Housewife of Santa Fe, some Stripper in Albuquerque, or some legitimate entertainers weed dealer in Santa Monica..........they're always in a music studio warbling out some filthy sounding nonsense before they drop their new "single".
I guess there's not really a defined argument on what a "Reality Show" is. Nowadays it could be a game show, some Kardashian bullshit, following guys doing their jobs............even something like a docu-series or documentary project could be declared a "Reality Show". I really don't know how to actually define it, to be honest.
I used to watch "American Pickers" years ago before those two guys started to wear thin on me. "Pawn Stars" was another one I used to watch for the collectibles, but I quickly tired of that one to. Haven't seen "Bushcraft", but it looks fairly interesting.
I exclude game shows (eg family feud) and competition shows (eg The voice)...but aside from those it's any shows where the main characters are not actors playing another character.
"Joel McHale Show" on Netflix (formerly the old "Talk Soup" show), has fun taking the piss out of a lot of the trashier reality shows out there.
Yeah, you were the chaplain that married the lesbian couple the day after they both gave birth to Kaitlyn/Bruce Jenner's In-Vitro babies.
I watched one last year that I was really excited about. I thought it had a really interesting idea. It was called “Hunted”, where you are competing with other duos to evade the authorities for a month and whoever lasts wins 250k. Needless to say, it was obvious that many parts of the show were scripted. Not to mention, it’s kind of hard to “disappear” with a camera guy following you around. No surprise it wasn’t picked up for a second season.
It all started with Mtv's 'The Real World' which will change completely what was once was a vanguard cable channel into the banal wasteland it is now.
