Two classic ´70s thrillers based loosely on similar subjects: post-WWII Third Reich war-criminals, Nazi doctors and conspiracies. Both have great casts, brilliant atmosphere and pacing and awesome set-pieces......but who wins? vs.
What slightly irks me about Marathon Man - is Dustin Hoffman. I´ve never warmed to him as an actor generally, even though he is good...and a lot of people will vote this movie because of the infamous ¨Is it safe?¨ dentist scene. I like the idea behind the story of The Boys From Brazil. I´ve no doubt the Nazis would have at least tried to perform such a crazy idea for real. Tough call....
There's a way this unsettling atmosphere of terror pervades MM that I think is really magical Like the house in the country... it's like they've driven into a painting
I haven't seen EVERY goddamn 70s movie ya cunt! But a good amount. Marathon Man is mandatory 70s viewing.
I watched both films the same week. I liked Boys From Brazil more because it is science fiction and whole thing was pretty disturbing. Kudos to the child actor for his cold as ice performance as the clone Adolf Hitler.
