One of the greatest and mysterious movies ever made.
Stanley Kubrick at the helm, Arthur C. Clarke script, (then, 1968) ground-breaking special effects, and a ton of questions asked as a result.

    Anyone a fan...or a critic?

Love it... the trippy sequence is dated admittedly but the film has this incredible, terrifying eeriness that is really unmatched anywhere else

In the hands of any other director, it might've been a disaster

It's a great achievement and I appreciate more and more as time goes by

I've seen 2001 once (like in the mid 00s), and I really don't have an interest in seeing it again. No, I'm not knocking it's greatness... it just doesn't have high replay value imo.

Same with Barry Lyndon. Another Kubrick great that I appreciate, but have no real urge to watch again.

But yes, I can concede that it's a cinematic masterpiece.

But compared to some other Kubrick classics, would I re-watch it over Dr. Strangelove, The Shining, FMJ, or Spartacus? No.

Barry Lyndon is brilliantly shot and well acted, but it’s just hard to sit through. I lost interest about halfway through.

I have been praising 2001 since the infancy of these forums. There was never anything like 2001: A Space Odyssey in the history of cinema and apparently there never will. No one will even attempt a film like that today.
