Does Hurd have a shot? Obviously, he is big enough to compete at 160. But against GGG, he will not enjoy the size advantage he is accustomed to having.
I think GGG decimates him, unless we're talking about the current version who was training for Canelo, and wouldn't be a mythical match-up
Hmmmm... lets see. Two common opponents... Hurd did far better against both. Canelo is OVERRATED not underrated. He's lost against the three best opponents he's faced, and he had a competitive fight with an old Cotto who he had a good 15 extra pounds on. And What's MORE.... now.... we don't even know if he was clean in his wins. Saying Hurd is better than Canelo isn't ridiculous at all. Who TF is Canelo? Carlos Monzon? It ain't all that hard to be a better fighter.
yeah, I think there's a good argument that Hurd is better than Canelo, but I don't think he matches well with GGG
He doesn't matchup well against the Golov of 4 years ago. Against current faded Golov? Golov is still the fave, but Hurd is a very live dog.
Hurd can box a bit but he’s too clumsy and crude not to get smacked up with the jab. He can throw hands in the pocket and take a shot but his defense is poor. He can wear guys down but he’s only done it against smaller, sorta fragile boxer types so far. GGG isn’t much more talented at this point but he’s a much more polished brick wall than Hurd.
I don't believe this theory. I think that the main difference between current GGG and the GGG of a few years ago is the quality of the oppostion he faces. Put the current version against the Rubio and Rosado of this world, and he would look as good
Considering his age, style and attributes it just seems like common sense that he’d be slowing down. He’s 37 I think. He’s lost the snap on his punches and his opponents can’t force that to happen. I think it’s pretty obvious that’s what Canelo was waiting for and he saw it in the euro guy and Jacobs fights.
35 (he was that age in his last fight) is no longer the death sentence it used to be, especially when you're a guy like GGG who barely took any punishment
We've been down this road before. 37 (actually 36) is no longer a death sentence, but make no mistake, it is NOT the same as 30-31. Golovkin has been champion since 2010, despite the fact that he hasn't been in a ton of tough fights, years alone DO accrue mileage and age DOES still matter. It's comically ignorant to pretend that a fighter who's 36, and depends on consistent pressure like Golov hasn't lost a step.
Beat me to it. Exactly what I meant. JOM thinks that goddamn age has gone out the window all together.
yeah, let's not let facts get in the way of a good narrative and pretend he was 37 against Jacob and Canelo (and not 34 and 35 respectively).
Golovkin's pressure style is a young man's thing. He's definitely lost a step, but due to his good fundamentals, experience, strength, and yes power, he's still a favorite over Hurd. But if Hurd is unfazed by his power? You never know what could happen.
Yeah, it’s not all about taking punishment, but the fact of aging and the wear and tear of being a world class athlete for such a long time. Golovkin needs Canelotrol!
I think its rather.obvious that the age excuse is used by GGG fans in order to excuse his poor performances against the only A class fighters he ever fought. It would.be a hell of a coincidence thay he got old at exactly the same.time he finally stopped facing detritus
Yeah, it would be a helluva coincidence if Golovkin wasn't the only guy in his absolute prime in the age of 35 There is no proof of how he would have done against Jacobs or Canelo five years earlier, but that doesn't mean that a pressure fighter who relies on timing would be at his peak
He was 34 against jacob. Stop lying and distorting the truth. There s a ton of fighter who were in their prime at 34
I'd be more willing to take JOM more seriously on a topic like this if he didn't basically do this with every single fighter regardless of age or circumstances (i.e. Benitez couldn't possibly be a shot fighter at 27... or Cuevas at 25 etc... guys that started fighting professional as kids)
