By request of Mean Mr. Mossturd this thread will be dedicated to old obscure foreign language horror film cult classics. I'll name a few and you can add your own. El Vampiro (The Vampire) 1957 I have reviewed this great film before as it remains a milestone in horror cinema. The makers of 'Horror of Dracula' (1958) and Christopher Lee himself admitted this film was a big influence in their own film. One of the best vampire films ever made. Period. Cronos (1993) Guillermo Del Toro's first film is a trip into the mysteries of ancient secrets and immortality with buckets of blood along the way. El Buque Maldito (The Ghost Galleon) 1973- This film from Spain is part of a horror trilogy, but this one is the most famous one. Two models and their companions gets stranded in the sea and they board an ancient galleon that looks abandoned, but at midnight the cadavers of the satanic Templars come out from under its decks searching for a human sacrifice. What makes this scary is the fact that once these people boarded the ship, they cannot escape as apparently they now dwell in a parallel reality. The acting is subpar with cliche dialogue, but once the Templars show up that becomes a minor flaw. Atmospheric creepy music is vital to the plot particularly at its nightmarish ending.
Hasta El Viento Tiene Miedo (Even the Wind is Scared) 1967 - Not to be confused with the kinky 2016 remake. This is a ghost story that centers around a group of students in an all girl's school who are punished to spend the summer at the school dorm. They learn about Andrea, a girl who committed suicide 5 years before whose ghost roams that place when the wind blows searching for the one who caused her death. Very atmospheric during the 'scary night parts' which contrasts with the vibrant colors of the day scenes. The film doesn't show much its ghost...and that is good.
MY thread, MARICON! YOU get the fuck out of this thread if you have nothing constructive to contribute to the topic. Have a nice day.
I haven't seen it, but I've heard that A Tale of Two Sisters is a very good/scary horror film. It's a Korean film, so I believe it. Nobody does horror as well as the Japs/Koreans.
I have that film on dvd for a long time now, but still haven't bothered to watched. I have heard is good too, but I need to be in the right mood to watch it.
"La Mujer Murcielago" (BatWoman) was a quickie exploitation film to capitalize on the Batman craze in 1968. Some critics like it over the actual 'Batman: The Movie' pointing that its female character bikini outfit (Maura Monti) was more pleasant to watch than Adam West's plus the Fishman monster was cooler than the corny Batman villains.
