Well, nineteen actually but I cant be arsed to wait.

April 1999 to be precise...I first browsed on and signed-up to the posting forum at www.princenaseem.com where there were a bunch of posters taking boxing and/or trolling each other.
I was Cleto Reyes in those days and I remember:
    Erasurehead (here still as Caligula)
    John Shep (Moderator)
    Simes
    El Diablo Fan
    Sesquipedalian
    Green Eyes
    Chi-town Slugger
    Everlast
    David Leeder
    Super Patriot
    BEAST
    The Daddy
    Chan

Who else here now started at that site before moving to Simes' SecondsOut Forum in March 2000??

(I know esk59, Orion, Darryl, BigDawg are names that might have been...)

I wish I could say that I was part of the ORIGINAL ORIGINAL cast, but I wasn't. I'd be lying if I could pinpoint the exact month, but I'm pretty sure it was late 2000 or early 2001 when I began posting on S/O. I do remember joining shortly before REED, cause I remember when he first began posting. I remember Double going by Loveland back then, and obviously, it was hard not to notice Cupey and his blind, disturbing man love of Trinidad. Same thing with Esk and his disturbing man love of Tyson, which is saying a lot, cause I'm a Tyson groupie my damn self.

Things were different back then. Of course, there was always smackingtalk and beefs, but we were all KIDS who soooooooo passionately loved the sport and defended our favorite fighters to the DEATH on an everyday basis.

Now, it's kinda like meehhhhhhh, whatever!

I say it leave it here.

The fuck do we talk about on the general forum nowadays anyway? Unless it's the week of a huge fight, this portion of the forum is dead.

    True

    Still ...

It was 20 years ago today
Mr Mustard came around to play
He was kicked around a little while
And it really really made me smile

So let me please all of you
And stab him with these fucking shears

Mustard made his debut on Fightbeat circa 2006 I think.

Before that I was 7-7-2 and Galactus (but Alabama_Man banned me)

You were 7-7-2 when I first encountered you... I was impressed because you knew Dannie Richmond as well as the hilarious Wil Calhoun story

Donnybrook just vanished ... I never knew the other guy really but I remember some speculation that he was a writer called Johnnie Whitehead who had a few pieces in The RING

Everlast is infamous for being the first S/O poster to speak in the third person.

My debut was on Dennis Beebe's forum in '97 or so. Then in 2001 I joined boxing.com and when it went down, I found S/O in 2002 and followed people to here.

Now, after sixteen years of posting with the same people, I am no longer the most insignificant poster around. I wish

I'm convinced that Roy Jones musta fucked and dumped Valentino's sister or something.

Me and that dude used to go back and forth non-stop on BF.

I don't have that kind of energy for idiots anymore.

I joined in 2000, boxingpress as it was at the time. That was the golden era of message boards...that was when The Tito-Vargas matchup was approaching and the forum was divided 50-50. What an exciting time that was: Tito “nut huggers “ vs the Trinidad haters. Both guys undefeated, both guys Titlists and both guys KO specialists. Everyone had a strong opinion. Everyone was engaged. There was a legendary thread on that matchup called “Vargas will win but will he get the decision?” Started by a guy called “Darell”. All the big boys were on their A game: von333, phonetap, everlast, The Sly One, Muzse, some Russian guy that posted in upper case, dazbag, Chi Town slugger, bigdawg. Place was on fire.

After that fight the next big controversy was around who would win between Tito and Mosley at 154lbs. That thread had some legendary back and forth.

    Ah....the good olde days

    Getting old sure sucks.

I started posting around 2000. I had been a hardcore fan starting in 1991, then became more casual in the mid 1990s, then got back into it hardcore in 2000.

Does anyone else drift in and out between being a hardcore fan and following casually? I still do that every few years.

That guy was always angry. I think it was him, or maybe someone else, who tried to claim that Roy is not an ATG and then tried to argue that Camacho is an ATG. The bias there towards Latin fighters is like ESB with Euros. But at least at BF people knew their stuff.

I joined secondsout right around Hopkins/Trinidad... I didn't even realize message boards were a thing, I knew instant messages were but that was it, had only had a computer with internet capability for a very short time... I literally just did an internet search for "Duran vs Chavez" on a lark hoping I might find a cool article about what that might've been like or something that would lead to some websites about boxing and one of the things that popped up was a topic on secondsout... I read it and was annoyed by how stupid some of the opinions were so I signed up lol

Kind of yeah. It's not that I only watch the big fights but generally now I have to hear second hand (usually from people here) whether or not a fight or some prospect is worth seeing. Almost like waiting to read a couple of reviews on rottentomatoes before spending the time watching a movie. I think there's a variety of reasons for that though. It's not always because boxing is going through a dry spell.

Green eyes is a girl, right?

I think the CBS forum preceded Beebe's forum. Oscar's forum was around that time, too.

It fucking sucks how these forums come and go, but especially how content in them disappears and is gone forever when it happens. Beebe's and Tam's are big examples.

Tam's nobsboxing forum had some real quality posters and some real quality posts that I would love to revive and now nobody even knows who Tam is or what happened to him.

Occasionally I take a hiatus from boxing and subsequently here too, but I am really not sure why - I fucking love boxing, and this place of course ;)

And yeah it seems I started posting the same time as most of you, the year 2000. At the time I posted mainly on the CBS boards, and some other weird boxing message board which was just this one huge long forum, I can't remember the name.

Then shortly afterwards I found and joined boxingpress.com, and fun times were to be had. There were certainly a lot of characters on that board, such as MADDOG and his fucking bizarre writing style and "10 pounds of dangling fury" catchphrase :D That was where I first saw REED too. I was initially put off by REED's also bizarre writing style, but grew to like him pretty quickly.

The BP/SP glory days with "Frunk Werren" etc were pretty epic :D

Same, around 1999/2000 on Boxingpress and Boxing.com. Once Alabama Man banned me from SO I decided to troll him and his shitty VGLN forum for a while.

I had him briefly believing that his life was in danger from me, cunt was terrified and started posting pics of all his guns saying I better not come over because he could hit a pig at 100 yards. I told him I'd break into his house while he was asleep and garrot him, I think he actually reported me to the FBI. Those were the days.

He did indeed try to argue that Roy was not a great fighter, hence the reason for all our arguments.

Boxingpress was the first message board I posted on where I met a lot of y'all. It was early 2000 I wanna say. Trinidad-Reid and Vargas-Quartey were on the horizon and I was 19 years old. Great times. Impossible to repeat.

Sometimes I think it was our youth, but I also can't help but feel that the fact that almost all the fights we wanted to see virtually all got made and delivered, we were all more on fire about it.

I mean in the year 2000 where it started perhaps for 90 percent of us on this board, we were fucking SPOILED as far as great fights and great fighters. The talent pool was deep, fights got made, we always had something to talk about.

Nowadays, it seems we have to wait an eternity and a half to get the fights we want. If more of the fights we wanted to see got signed, boxing could work it's way back to where it once was even if we are older and more mellowed out.

Very true. Back then all the big fights were being made so there was always high drama on the forums. Tito, Mosley, Hopkins, Jones, Mayweather, Corrales, De La Hoya, Vargas....all these guys were in their primes. Nowadays big fights are few and far between.
