You all know how I feel about Floyd nowadays, and I really like Loma - both his style and personality. Having said that, let me be honest... Pretty Boy Floyd would have beaten Loma with quite a bit room to spare.

Really you think so? You think the range would be a problem, or jab and defense?

You know I'm as high on Lomachenko as anyone, but I do agree Floyd would win partly due to size. I think it would be tough though, Lomachenko is too fucking good, skilled, and unique to be an easy fight for anyone without a huge size advantage.

Yeah Loma is too good to be an easy fight for anyone, including Floyd...including Roberto "Kal-El" Duran. The way I see a Floyd-Loma fight going is that Floyd would win round 1 (because Loma always starts slow and Floyd always starts fast)...Loma would win rounds 2, 3 and 4 as Floyd will be a little bothered by the southpaw mischief. Floyd would adjust in round 5 by timing Loma and nailing him with check left hooks as Loma tries his patented "step around to orthodox opponent's left" routine. After that it'll be mostly Mayweather including at least one KD. 8-4 type UD.

Very possible, though making that comparison you still have to remember how Floyd did in the same stage of his career. In eyes of many he lost his lightweight debut.

In the later bouts he clearly showed that he was better than he appeared against Castillo. Loma hasn't done that but he still has a chance. Both dominated in the lower weight class, Floyd probably even more so.

I think prime Floyd beats Loma very convincingly.

He has the speed and athleticism to stay with him, the brain to match wits, and his height and reach will simply cause too many problems for Loma.

Plus, Floyd was much more offensive minded back then. He fought inside, dug the body, threw more combinations, and didn’t mind taking a shot back then.

    Mayweather via UD.

    This

Loma is good , but it's obvious he's a notch below PBF

I don't see the big gulf to be honest with you, right now I'd pick Floyd, and he was brilliant at the lower weights, but Loma would still be the most technically skilled fighter he'd have ever faced.

The point PR made would be a factor. Floyd's height and reach advantage would be problematic for Loma... not those two attributes ALONE but the fact that combined with them Floyd was quicker pullingthe trigger than Loma. Floyd's laser fast straight right would be an issue for Loma and would keep him honest or even stun him/drop him. While conversely, I question if Loma could do any damage to Floyd.. it's doubtful.

Here's another factor... Floyd is the MUCH physically stronger of the two... the gap is rather large in that area, and would be a problem for Loma on the inside where Floyd would bully him.

High speed, high class chessmatch, but Floyd was just too physically talented, too strong, and too dynamic.

    I think it'd be a clear 8-4, 9-3 win for Floyd.

Floyd would have stopped fragile ass Linares inside of 5 btw, in a completely NON-competitive fight. So forgive me if I'm not colored blown away by Loma's performance.

Yeah Linares wouldn't even beat Jose Luis Castillo.

Floyd would have dismantled him and it wouldn't have gone more than 6 rounds IMO.

Castillo???? I don't like Linares' chances against Juan Lazcano, let alone Castillo. Linares blows.

Lightweight was so much deeper back in the early-to-mid 00s than it is now. Castillo, and Casamayor would pick Linares apart, and Corrales would have highlight reel KO'd him.

That is true, but see, there's the rub - Lomachenko is tiny. Chenko was smaller than Linares, Floyd is bigger than Linares.

If Chenko was the same size as Floyd it's a different fight, just like if Pacquiao was the same size.

Also, Floyd lost to Castillo according to many, whereas Loma knocked Linares out. So just the fact that Castillo was better of the two doesn't tell you everything.

I agree with X that Floyd's edge in power and strength is likely the deciding factor, but Loma's inhuman balance and footwork would make it tricky

Agreed, PBF would be the favorite, but I don't him being an overwhelming one. Ok, Lomachenko got caught and kd, but he's way more aggressive than most top fighters so that is to be expected from time to time. And no way Floyd stops Linares within 5, he would probably wins it fairly easily but Linares is far better than Sosa and Ndou

It'd be a little harder for Loma to utilize his infamous pivots and angles against a man who can match him with foot quickness and who ALSO has exceptional footwork.

Given what happened against Salido, who's a scrub compared to Castillo, it's no lock that Loma even beats Castillo.

    8-4 isn't a walk in the park. It's a clear win.

Btw I do agree Castillo would have beaten Linares much more easily than Loma, due styles.

Imo Linares is one of those Mark Breland -types, quick, hurtful and fragile. If you have the physics to steamroll him, he isn't that tough of an opponent. However if you can't do that, it becomes very tricky. Tiny Lomachenko had to really struggle.

For the same reason Floyd had more trouble against Zab Judah than against some better fighters.

Judah was faster and more explosive than Lomachenko. Not as skilled, not as good, not as intelligent, but faster handed and with more power.

You also have to consider that Floyd himself was faster at 130-135 than he was at welterweight.

Lomachenko is being overrated right now, he really is. He's being put in MM's with guys like Whitaker, Duran, Chavez, Floyd, and it's all still very premature.

Loma is a HOF fighter, that much is CLEAR AS DAY! But it's still very early doors to compare him with ATG's.

Discussing his chances against Chavez and Duran is gonna look comical if Mikey beats him.

Now, if Loma-Garcia happens and Loma wins clearly, THEN we can start discussing a bit more seriously how he fares vs the greats.

Yeah, but the circumstances related to that fight were far from normal.

If you go on ESB, you'll see some truly epic hilarious threads - one claiming that Loma's performance vs Linares was more impressive than Floyd's performance vs Corrales. I can't make this shit up.

Lomachenko vs (THE GREAT) Juan Manuel Marquez is one I would have loved to have seen. Lomachenko typically overwhelms and frustrates his opponents into quitting but there was zero quit in JMM. JMM is a guy that would be dropped three times, have his nose broken, can't breathe because of teh blood in his nose and just keep coming and coming and patiently sticking to his game plan until he gets you. Would have been a fascinating fight.

Great fight but i would favor Lomachenko in that one. Yes he was dropped by Linares, and Marquez is much better but Loma won't give the same amount of openings that Pacquiao did to counter. Manny's assaults were much more violent but they still allowed room for Marquez to get his own nice work done. Chenko isn't going to war it out with him.

I'm a bit surprised at all the accolades Loma is getting for the Linares fight. Sure it was a nice display of heart, but he was literrally playing even with a guy, that despite the hype he received, is simply not very good. I still think he's by far the p4p best fighter in the world right now, but he showed a lot of vulnerabilities.

I'm not saying the greats would splatter him, but I think he's a clear underdog against them

But OTOH I think that Loma deserves a lot of praises for the way he's continually striving to fight the best. If most bxers were only half as ambitious as he is, the sport would be i a much much better place

I actually think Castillo probably beats Loma due to his size and pressure. He’d be able to corner Loma and make it an inside fight.

Loma is in fact being overrated. Great fighter, one of my favorites today. But he’s being put on a pedestal he has not earned yet.

castillo would only be able to compete with lomachenko based on size and a 10+ lbs weight advantage.
