REED's Been Familiarizing Himself w/Elieder Alvarez This Week...

He Doesn't Fight ANYTHING Like his Record/KO % Indicates (23-0, 11 KO's)...He's a Combative, Chip-on-the-Shoulder Sort Who Flings Hooks/Crosses Like he's Mugabi or Wilfredo Gomez...Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from the "Cutey" Boxrec'ing Him Suggests...Decent All Around Skillset and a LOT of Self-Confidence Too...

If Alvarez Has a Chin, This Could Be the End of the Championship Road for Kovalev…

One Thing's for Sure, HBO Ain't Babysitting His Ass This Time, Like They Have the Last 2 Bouts...

Anybody Up to Speed on Alvarez???...Literally, REED had NEVER Seen Dude Fight Until 2 Days Ago...

I have seen only one fight from him so far and I can see him stylistically causing trouble for Kovalev. Alvarez keeps up good pace and throws plenty of shots whereas Kovalev's defense is leaky and if he has been boozing again, his conditioning might not hold up.

That being said, Alvarez's last fight against Pascal was too close for me to pick him here. Being troubled by Chilemba is OK, but unless he has granite chin or Kovalev is clearly past it, I can't pick Alvarez.

The co main event between Bivol and Chilemba is even more interesting to me. Bivol could have the speed to be the first guy to really trash Chilemba, but I wouldn't be surprised if Chilemba frustrates yet another name opponent

Stopping Sullivan Barrera is a LEGIT Feather in Bivol's Cap and REED Thinks he'll Do Likewise to Chilemba, Possibly Earlier...

Bivol-Chilemba isn't interesting at all. Chilemba has no shot in Hell at winning.

As for Kov-Alvarez, it wouldn't be a huge upset at this point if Alvarez won as Kov is getting older, but I do think Kov will win.

Kov has yet to lose to a fighter who's hittable.

Alvarez is a good fighter, but hes not special enough to beat kovy. Will probably frustrate him for a few rounds wirh his jab, but afterward, hes getting mauled

Stevenson would eventually lay him out. Alvarez defense is too leaky

The official story was that Showtime wasn't interested in a Stevenson Alvarez fight, so the purse for both fighters would have been as small as Neil pecker (it was stated that Alvarez made more against Pascal and Bute tha he would have in a Stevenson bout), and Alvarez was more than happy accepting step aside money.

I personally think that Yvon Michel, who is the manager of both fighter, wasn't too keen on making them face each other

Damn, alvarez looked on his way to losing, and he uncorked a bomb on Kovy. Have to agree with X, Kovy is a definite front runner

Yeah Kovalev is at the end of the road. Alvarez is a guy he would have beaten 5 years ago.

Never got the Kovalev praise, ever.
Big hitter, campaigning in a shitty division, beating an ancient Hopkins, a bunch of 'Who?'s and two back-to-back defeats vs a guy moving up should've told you all you need to know about Kovalev.

Alvarez looked good last night. His chin held up against Kovalev's power better than any other Kovalev opponent.

I'm one of the biggest Kov fans on the forum, as everyone knows. But his quality as a fighter definitely has to be re-evaluated at this point.

Circa 2014 it really looked as if Kov had a shot at going down as a top 20-25-ish lightheavy great.. but he just never lived up to those expectations.

Given his lack of a great chin and his questionable stamina... he probably wouldn't even beat a Michalcheski... not alone one of the true lightheavy greats.

Not to sound like an old timer, but its 100% true that ALLL of the top level late 70s/early 80s top lightheavys would have stopped Kov.

I thin k one of the reasons being so successful puncher at 175lb is that you don´t have much leway to do anything else: moving down to 168 is tough, weight-wise and moving up to 190 diminshes power more than any other division.
Also, let´s not forget Pascal said Froch hit harder at 168 than Kovalev at 175 and Ward said he didnt hit as hard as he had expected.

Froch did NOT hit harder than Kov, I don't give a shit what Pascal SAID... the results speak otherwise.

Couple of years ago, a question was posed about Kov vs prime Roy, and I said at the time Roy by wide UD. But in retrospect, Kov definitely wouldn't last the distance with a young Roy.
