How heavily do you lads take into account Rotten Tomato and Metacritic scores before watching a flick? I'm not taking IMDB scores into account, since IMDB is a complete joke. For instance... if there's a movie you're thinking about seeing, and you see it that it has a 25% score on RT... do you still go through with it?
Not gonna lie... I factor the RT score if I'm on the fence. If I REALLY wanna see it, I'll watch it regardless. Most times, the movies I'm interested in watching have high scores anyway.
absolutely. Couple points though. If a movie has 98% from critics but people score is 60% then I will be a little hesitant because you know these snob hipster critics they go for style over substance sometimes. So I make sure both people score and critics score is relatively close. If a movie gets 20% from critics and say 80% from people I wouldn't watch it. 40% and up from the critics and I'll watch. and yes I most definitely check the RT score before I go see anything.
Critics are dicks but their options will always carry more weight than the audience. The mainstream generally doesn't know what the fuck a quality movie is. They're entertained by The Rock swinging from a building. The MAIN problem with critics is that a SHITLOAD of them are in the pockets of the studios.
People are dumb as fuck. They like the worst movies. Just look at Kevin hart movies or Fast and the furious. Crap like that should bomb and careers should be ended but nope. That's why there are so many crappy movies out there and there is no effort put into making great original films anymore because these fuckers will watch garbage as long as you slap Kevin hart's name across the poster or show a lot of explosions in the trailer....
Hart's gimmick will play out one day. But by time it does, he'll be financially set for several lifetimes and wont care.
Hart is kind of resented in the black comedy community it seems, cause his peers know hes not funny. His arrogant ass says its because he works harder, but that's BS. All top comedians work their asses off. Hart just got lucky.. he has a sell-able, Hollywood friendly gimmick... the midget, non-threatening, dopey black guy.

agREED RT scores are a must check before going to watch any movie. That said, I'll watch any Marvel film regardless of the RT scores.
Do you guys factor in Metacritic scores also? Metacritic is a pretty good indicator of the truly elite movies. There's some mediocre pieces of shit that have decent ratings on RT. I find the Metacritic score is often more accurate. I check both.
The misleading thing about RT though is that every single critic could give a movie a 6/10 and the score will be 100%.
If i'm using torrents and checking out a list of movies to download and only want to watch one in the evening, sometimes i google them (which usually brings up RT) When two films are sub 20% and the third is 80% it helps to make a choice. Other than that i don't really look at reviews before i watch anything although sometimes i browse the list of which films are currently new and rated highly. After that i briefly check out the summaries. The premise has to at least interest me. If it's along the lines of "17th century painter takes on a student, they fall in love and decide to marry against the wishes of their parents" I don't care if it's got a 125% rating and 20 Oscar nominations.
I live in the past in this regard. I don't think I have ever visited RT. I sometimes check IMDB after I have seen a film, since it is sometimes interesting to see how other have viewed the same movie. With new movies, I either hear it from my friends or I read some newspaper critique which may affect my decision. I hate the modern trend where 'everybody is as knowledgeable about everything'.
I usually go to IMDB because unlike RT it doesn’t look like a site that was designed for children and because it’s easier to navigate, although that may be simply because I’ve been using it for several years. I do agree that IMDB’s user rating system seems to be unreliable as the site seems to have been infected with millenials who are constantly giving either 1 Star reviews for films they don’t like or 10 Star reviews for films they do. So when I want to decide on a film I want to see I’ll usually go on IMDB find a few balanced scores and read the reviews they posted about the film. If it sounds like something I want to see and sounds like it was made correctly I’ll usually go see it. As an example I was researching the Meg and the score was okay but based on a review I read where the people being hunted were cracking jokes during dangerous periods and it didn’t have a serious feel to the film I’ve decided not to watch that one at the movies, for now. Likewise there are two upcoming movies I made my decision purely off of their trailers. Predator and Venom I’m not going to watch at all unless the reviews are above average.
