REED Will BOLDLY Attempt to Interpret Doub's Thoughts on This:eek:...

To REED, a "Gimmicky Fighter" Would Be One That Has No SURFACE Assets Explaining His Success...He Relies on Under the Surface Means to Win Fights Instead...

Like John Ruiz...No Redeemable Boxing Talents/Abilities to Speak Of, Yet He Managed to Hold and DEFEND a Portion of the Heavyweight Title AND was a Consensus Top 5 Heavyweight of His Era...

Ruiz is Faaaaaaaaaaaaar from the Only Example and a "Gimmicky Fighter" CAN Be Skilled/Talented Also...Case in Point, Prince Naseem Hamed...Being Unorthodox was his Gimmick, Yet he Also Possessed Above Average Speed and is 1 of the Harder Punchers EVER...

DeMarcus Corley?? A guy who was noticeably inferior to a strong generation but seemed to do enough to be remembered for the right reasons? Like buzzing Floyd and Cotto.

Broner, he's basically made a career out of being a loud mouth cunt who really isn't that good.

The Gay Ass Trunks and the Fact he Spoke Openly of WEARING Women's Undergarments SUGGESTS Corley is a "Gimmicky Fighter", but there was a DEGREE of Acumen to His In-Ring Approach...

He Didn't Buzz Floyd and Cotto by LUCK, He was a Pretty Decent Fighter in His Day...

Chop-Chop Became 1 of Floyd's Main Sparring Partners After they Fought...You Don't Keep a "Gimmicky Fighter" in Your Stable of Sparring Partners...Not for Looooooooooong Anyways...

What is Broner's Gimmick and HOW Does his Gimmick Enable Him to Win Fights?

REED Could Be Off, but he Thinks that's Doub's Criteria....

Fair point, there's no 'physical' gimmick as such, he's just a guy who talks a lot of shit.

Yeah. Now granted, I made the thread 8 years ago. But reading it over, I wasn't referring to a fighter's image or his schtick. Rather, I was talking about gimmicky tactics. And by gimmicky, I mean improvised shit fighters come up with to make up for their weaknesses and lack of skill.

Some guys are gimmicks in that they aren't bad fighters but their Press and their Public Relations officers pump them up to a far greater level than they ever would "Normally" have reached and so they fall away badly when they peak.

    They aren't exposed as such.

Mike Grant was a gimmick. Awesome physique, perfect timing right at the end of the period of US dominance, with good wins over good name fighters.

He was good at that level, but totally lacking at the very top.

He basically disappeared thereafter, not once people figured out he was a sham, because he wasn't, but once people figured out he couldn't do what they wanted him to do, or had been told he could do.......he was totally surplus to requirements.

Same with JJ Jeffries at the time he fought Jack Johnson. He was dragged back to boxing when he was way way past his best, an overweight, hard-drinking retiree.

And, once people found out he couldn't beat Johnson, he too was never mentioned again.

Same with Jess Willard. There wasn't to the best of my knowledge any attempt to reconstruct his bum ass career after he lost to Dempsey.

He'd beaten Johnson, that's what people wanted. Once they had that, and had a new toy in the explosive Dempsey, Willard retired to his ranch.

If ever you make a thread like this again I would suggest that you fucking explain what the fuck you’re talking about instead of just asking the gaddamned questions and expecting us to interpret this shit!!!

    A. A Skillful, Fundamentally Sound Fighter Has the Capacity to Effectively Combat a Gimmick Fighter...

    B. Yes
    C. An Embarrassingly 1-Sided Loss
    D. Depending on their Level of Success, a Gimmick Fighter Can Dumbfound, Puzzle and Perplex Fans/Media...You'll Either Think, "This Guys SUCKS! How the Fuck Does he Continue to WIN Fights" Or "This Guy is LITERALLY Redefining the Application of the Sport, as we Know It"...

Reflecting on the Gimmick Fighter's Career, He Could Be Considered a Lucky Bastard that Finagled a Few Wins OR a True Innovator...
