This is some clash of styles here. Ali never met a tall guy that could use his height and reach like Lewis, along with that power. And the same is true of Lewis in that he’s never met a guy with the ability Ali had. What would this look like?
It's been done several times before, and I'll always have the same answer - 60s Ali by clear decision over Lewis. Lummox would of course would be competitive, but he'd be a step behind for most of the night. And 60s Ali COULD hurt Lewis imo, he had the power to do so. 15 rounder - Ali 10-5 12 rounder - Ali 8-4
Too hard to tell. Gun to my head, I would lean toward Ali, but I could see LL completely obliterate Ali.
If Lewis at his very best couldn't obliterate an aged Holy, how in the living FUCK is gonna obliterate Ali? I didn't even say anything Bout those picking Lewis, but obliterate? Lol.
I could see it. With the way Ali fought (hands down, dancing around), he might be completely destabilized by the size, power and skills of Lemon. I'm not saying it's my prediction (hell I picked Ali), but if someone was to win this match big, it would be LL imo. And old Holy fought nothing like Ali, so it's a ridiculous argument
I don’t think Ali would make the mistake he made against Henry Cooper. He’d approach Lewis knowing that one mistake could lead to a bad ending and would fight accordingly.
And why do we pretend that Ali wasn't a better, stronger guy by 1967 than he was in the first Cooper bout? For this matchup, Ali's ridiculous speed is being kind of overlooked
Also, Lewis was never troubled by movers, and for a guy his size he had a very good footwork. Of course, he never fought anything like Ali, but that is true vice versa as well
What good mover did Lennox fight? This isn't a mere mover, it's a ludicrously fast guy that can move all night
Ali will have to enter the danger zone against a massive-punching super heavyweight who fights tall. It ain't gonna be easy.
Well? You said he wasn't really troubled by movers... I assume you've got some movers he showed this quality against
In the very next chapter I said 'he never fought anything like Ali', which I think is obvious. The point is, we don't know how Lennox would deal with Ali's movement, even though Ali clearly had the greater footwork. Guys like Mildenberger and Norton were able to sort of keep up with him, even though they were much slower too. Had Lewis had trouble with movers in his career, we would know for sure how he could (not) deal with Ali
The larger point is Lewis never fought anybody who moved notably well and the phrase "never had trouble with movers" implies he was met with the task of fighting one. It's like saying Lucia Rijker never had trouble with male opponents
So far I've learned on this thread that Lummox fought Kirk Johnson and Larry Holmes. But I bet yall don't remember when Lummox fought Sonny Liston... I remember.
