Im not as crestfallen as most for three reasons:
1) rodgers tactics had clearly proven a deadend in europe, a fact brought into sharpest relief against salzburg this season where, pinned in our own third by one of the finest high presses in europe we.....continued to try and pass it out methodically from the back anyway. Definition of insanity. Theres no plan aii, let alone a plan b. And, unlike under o'neil, strachan, lennon we no longer bring anything to the table in terms of physicality, directness or set piece threat to counteract the lack in quality which is always gonna exist with a wage bill that falls between 10-50% of every team we're up against.
2) slightly contradicting the above- managers simply arent that important. Seriously. Its become like a ceremonial role with the scouting and recruitment systems simply playing a far bigger role in success. Yes, rodgers has acted as a pull for young players (or the owner clubs of young players) but overall recruitment has been pretty pish these last few years. Im more concerned that we sort that out than whos in the dugout.
3) john kennedy is by all accounts a rising star at the club who was already set to become director of fitbaw soon. We also have solid guys like willie mcstay, steph mcmanus, shuan maloney, damien duff and others in the bootroom at various levels and if lennon is gonna come in in the intern i think therell be enough sense of continuity to keep things ticking over until we find a long term replacement. I actually think we could do alot worse than Steve Clarke.
