Is there any chance that Andy Ruiz is good?

One more topic, to look this from different perspective and also to concentrate on the worthy winner.

The story of the fight has, understandably, been how Joshua got exposed, which definitely is the case. But can part of the result also be that Ruiz is actually pretty good. Sometimes when there are upsets, we learn eventually that the guy causing the upset is actually pretty good, even though we first concentrate on the losing favorite.

Ruiz is definitely not a versatile fighter, with his lack of reach it is very difficult to see him a good boxer type. He however does have pretty good hand speed, some pop, sturdy chin and good poise in a firefight, plus he seems like a strong fellow.

So could the be a better guy than he looks, or is he merely a scrub that got lucky since he ran into a fraud?

He's somewhere inbetween a scrub who met a fraud and a guy better than he looks.

Looking at Ruiz, one would think he has NO ability, which he proved he does. I mean, the Butterbean comparisons are unfair. Andy is a helluva lot better than that sideshow Butterbean.

However, AJ is so shitty that it made Ruiz look better than he is.

Back in the day we used to clown Tua for being fat, and truth be told, Tua would have wiped his ass with Ruiz.

Andy is nothing special. He lost to Parker for Christ sake.

    Joshua is THAT flawed.

I agree that result, questionable though it was, proves Ruiz is nothing special. However it isn't the whole truth about him, since Joshua did beat Parker and Ruiz defeated him in style. It could also tell about Ruiz' lack if versatility, more so than his class

For now, I believe Ruiz is about as good as Hasim Rahman.

Rachman would have soundly outboxed Ruiz.

I don't think he'd beat Oleg Maskaev or Kirk Johnson......I don't know if he'd beat Valuev, I don't know if he'd beat Frans Botha....Axel Schulz, that level of guy.

He had the perfect foil for Joshua, he hit just hard enough and landed on the top of the head cos he can't throw straight shots.....black fighters can have iron jaws but glass temples/domes...very unusual.

Whites have weak chins and solid foreheads....neanderthals you see.

I don't think Ruiz is very good.

Think about it....he didn't really show an amazing chin. He got hit by one good shot and it dropped him. He got hit with very little thereafter, not nothing, but nothing like it again, and that was ALL down to Joshua being a scrub.

Big heart, brave guy, decent tight hands, decent speed, a bit of punch....but he's not in shape, not even close, and he's not got great angles or great feet.

A 50c cigarette lighter always looks good when fucked into a vat of gasoline. Throw it up against some soggy twigs and it can't light shit.

if Rock gassed like he did against Maskaev then you can see those short fat bombs doing damage.

But prior to that, Rock has a great jab, a legit jab, and he controls it.

It could be, but a guy who got blasted out twice by Oleg Maskaev and was outpointed by another Ruiz is hardly a lock against anyone. Rahman was extremely erratic, but at his best form yes he probably was better than Ruiz

Obviously, we aren't picking somebody who goes around with duffel bags of money and has trained for 4 rounds.

The Rahman that went to South Africa to beat Lewis, beats Ruiz.

Maskaev was slow as fuck, but he was a very big puncher.

    Andy doesnt hit like that.

    I think Rock controls him.

We are not disagreeing. I think Andy and Rahman are the same level of guys, with Rahman having the higher highs and lower lows

I dont think Rachman would have lost to somebody as pathetic as Parker.

To be honest, I always thought Ruiz was pretty good, years ago in one of his first televised fights I guess.

I was surprised he lost to Parker, I thought he'd beat him easily.

I also thought he stood a WAY better chance of pulling the upset than Miller.

He could be good if he lost weight. But at this point, it will bever happen so he'll always be crap.

How, IYO, does the weight trouble him?

I am asking since in the fights I have seen of him I haven't thought he would be much better if he was lighter. He is pretty quick, he doesn't get gassed immediately, his balance isn't poor etc. In my opinion his limitations are elsewhere

    115-113 x 2, 114-114. Some say Parker got a home town decision.

Millers the same threat though...........AJ has a TOTAL blindspot at close range to looping shots about the temple and top of the head.

He's slppy and looping. He'd be much sharper if he was in shape

I wonder how much that fat fuck will weight for his next fight?? Seems pretty obvious that after winning the biggest fight of his career while being heavier than ever, he'll use this as a justification to binge on every type of food available

Absolutely - he arguably beat Parker (was close), knocked out AJ - I reckon he's pretty decent. Good chin, good skills, fast hands, jiggling breasts - he's the complete package.

Did anyone catch when Ruiz was beating Joshua up how the commentators were banging on about Ruiz "stunning amateur career" and using his "true amateur skills", somehow forgetting that Joshua won an Olympic Gold medal, lol.
