Blood On The Tracks was the last Dylan record I demand someone spend money on and that tour was the last time I ever would've wanted to go see him ... Desire is not a good record and Scarlet Rivera might be shittiest violinist to ever be the lead soloist on a well known record

Is this a documentary? Because I'm in ... if it's a biopic, I'll skip it

Just to clarify, I'm praising both BOTT and this tour in that post

I remember there was some movie that came out several years ago, with the premise of like 5 different actors and actresses portraying Bob Dylan in different scenes. It might be a fine movie for all I know, but simply the idea of it has made me completely avoid it. Like, just thinking about it gives me a tummy ache. Kind of like movies about dolls. Just gives me a baaaaad feeling.

I enjoyed it, even though it contains some weird 'fantasy' scenes.

Still 5x better than the '78 docu-drama of the Rolling Thunder Revue, 'Renaldo & Clara' - either the 2hr or 4hr version.

It's a documentary and it's 76. It is post-desire. So why are you praising the tour?

The tour was good, the album wasn't

A tour and an album are different things

Furthermore, Desire came out mid-tour ... CUNT

Renaldo & Clara was basically unwatchable aside from some decent performance footage

Was 'Desire' really anything to do with Rolling Thunder Revue?

Not really ... just came out in 1976 ... he did some of the material live (and better) on the tour but the tour started long before Desire came out and was over a few months after it

TL;DR: Doub needs his face lopped off

Tour was a two-part trip: Nov-Dec '75 was mainly North-East (New England) small venues, April-May '76 was Southern states.

It is interesting that it did appear like a 'circus' rather than the usual mid-70s arena jaunts.

I had a baaad feeling last night. In fact just like you said, it was a tummy ache. Something I ate for dinner didn’t agree with me and I had to get up and go shit. I caught the runs at 3:45 in the morning; can you believe that shit? (Pun intended).

Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Desire was a solid album. Romance in Durango? Joey? Every song is good. It was not as good as BOTT but it was certainly good. Just my opinion.

    Agreed.
Desire is a great album - good variation of styles: Blood On The Tracks/Nashville Skyline/John Wesley Harding
Too many people listen to critics when they get all bent out of shape over Blood On The Tracks.

Things only got bad 2 years later with Street Legal, Slow Train Coming and the truly shit Saved.

Blood on The Tracks and John Wesley Harding are GREAT records

Nashville Skyline is near great, definitely excellent

Desire is just okay, has no business being in the conversation with the other three

Outside of the abominable Self-Portrait, Desire was the first mediocre Dylan LP

Planet Waves wasn't great song-wise but The Band were terrific on it and it has a nice propulsion to it even if little stands out

Desire is absolutely turgid and boring in spots and Scarlet Rivera was a major miscalculation... if he wanted a fiddle that much, at least get a musician who can say something with the instrument... her poor playing and bad soloing is an ear sore

"Too many people listen to critics..." ... honestly, just fuck off with that garbage... like I ever base my thoughts on music on what rock critics (who usually know zilch about music) have to say

You took that way to personally.
Too many people hold Dylan up as 'prolific' beyond belief, but let's face it, like every other artist, he had one great purple-patch: 1965-68
Bringing It All Back Home - Highway 61 Revisited - Blonde On Blonde - John Wesley Harding

I'll cut your fucking eyeballs out, you fucking slag

Who's "holding up this prolific artist"? I didn't say he made nothing but great records 1963-1975 ... I specified Self-Portrait in particular as one of the shittiest things he ever did and that was 5 fucking years before Blood

But Blood holds up with his greatest records and IS the last great record he ever made... he's not come within a million miles of it and certainly didn't with Desire which I think was his second crappiest record from 1963-1976, you fucking wank

Blood On The Tracks is the most overrated record in his career:
    Negatives
for one, the sound is horrendously uniform: tolerable on a record like New Morning with its piano ballads, since it was 30mins long and most of the songs were over before you could even get into them.
But Blood it is almost 50 min long, and quite a few of the songs ramble on too far. Not to mention that, for the first time ever, he really makes it possible to accuse him of being self-indulgent: occasionally trying his hand at 'skilful' guitar playing, but he's not a virtuoso, and that's why I can hardly stand 'Buckets Of Rain'.
Couple other songs don't cut the mustard, either: 'If You See Her Say Hello' sounds like filler to me.
I've never understood the hidden charm of that song.
I know it's matter of taste, though - I understand how a soon-to-be-liquidated cretin like you might adore the song.
The overlong, extremely boring ballad 'Lily, Rosemary And The Jack Of Hearts'.
Ugh. Just irritating. Puzzling at best.
(most cunts who adore Blood keep their cakeholes shut when it comes to that song).

Another defect is that the song structure is even more uniform than ever: obligatory harmonica solos that close almost every number, and the actual title repeats for a stupid number of times after each verse, so that after a short time you can predict the whole song by just listening to the first verse.

    DIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Love the organ in Lily, Rosemary....

I like the E guitar on BOTT

I actually really like Street Legal too - Senor? Where are you tonight? Changing of the Guard. No time to think!!!

    Street Legal is dull.

Hopeless, dreary pessimistic tunes, lots of horns, back-up vocals and not very impressive melodies.
    Two good songs on it.
