Funny thing I’ve noticed about the UFC. You occasionally get guys who’ve trained for years in a certain style of stand up Karate or Kung Fu. However, when they fight in the octagon their stand up for the most part all looks the same style of kicks and punches. There’s very little of the fancy karate or Kung fu blocking and the most effective offensive styles seem to be boxing & mui thai. I’ve absolutely never seen anyone employ an Akido style joint lock and seen people trained in Capoeira but couldn’t see any of their techniques employed.

yeah, boxing and muay thai are by far the most used and most effective. Machida is probably the only top level guys who had a ''different'' striking technique (Wonderboy might qualify)

Well in Bellator I’ve seen a couple other guys fighting Machida’s hands down side facing style and they actually are more unconventional with it than he is. One of them is MVP which if you watch Bellator regularly I’m sure you know him. In fact in Bellator I’ve seen a lot more deviation in technique and to positive effect than I have in the UFC.

I would, I think those guys can compete in the UFC. Bellator is where a lot of ex UFC guys go such as Benson Henderson and they don’t exactly blow the doors off when they get to Bellator. I think UFC and Bellator are just different leagues not different levels.

Well you arent going to see Akido or Capoeira in the UFC because both are bullshit Arts that that anyone with 1 month of training in Wrestling or BJJ would destroy easily.

If you want to see styles of martial arts like Karate in the UFC watch Lyoto Machida or Wonderboy.

If you want to see some interesting Standup that incorporates Karate, Kung Fu, & Muay Thai check out Anderson Silva.

And of course check out Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock for some amazing kickboxing.

There are way more examples but these are fun to youtube.

You’re speaking to me like I’m brand new to this when I’ve actually been following the sport heavily for more than a year and haven’t missed a card in maybe the last six months. And that includes most of Bellators cards and I’m talking early and regular prelims as well. I mentioned this in a previous boxing thread but I’m much more of a UFC fan than a boxing fan now.

I initially thought that what caused my loss of interest in boxing was that I changed, then I thought maybe the sport of boxing changed. I realize that it’s both. I changed because I don’t always have the patience to sit through average 12 round fights anymore and I think boxing has changed because top tier talent is so sparse and practically nonexistent these days.

Yeah I remember you were one of the first to really be into it, I never thought I would like it but I was wrong. So you’re right, by comparison I am new, I’m just not brand new.

Sad that by exposing a fake martial arts master he was rewarded by being censored left & right, all social media accounts shut down and his beloved sport getting no more financial support. Back in the day Masutatsu Oyama did exactly the same, but contrary to this guy, he did received universal acclaim in Japan and in other countries. He should be a celebrity if he didn't lived in China.

Just because Xu thinks MMA should be the defining martial art or self defense in China doesn’t make him right. You can’t just take a dump all over traditional martial arts thats been around for centuries and is a huge part of China’s culture and not expect some backlash.

Martial arts aren’t solely used for self defense and there is a huge difference between a guy dedicated to traditional martial arts and one who’s main focus is training for competition. That Wing Chun guy looked lethal in there and scored some really good shots but because Xu is very durable and the Wing Chun guy maybe hasn’t incorporated things like sitting down on his punches or other proper power generating techniques he loses the fight.

I’m all for exposing fake martial arts but is Xu’s point really to expose fake martial arts or rather to show MMA is superior to real and fake martial arts by showing them up in competition? Because I don’t think Wing Chun is fake and MMA isn’t even close to being the one true martial art since it’s composed of other arts.
