Exactly. This wasn't the usual shot fighter who can't find the openings or throw haymakers that miss by a mile. Slow reflexes, can't pull the the trigger in time and gets beat to the punch. He was landing, but never unleashed any bombs even though Canelo was nearly always in range. Punchers usually get exposed when the rely too much on their power. They never completely abandon it like Kovalev did. To make it worse he did so against a smaller opponent.
Exactly. It's not like Wlad vs AJ where his left was off and his right wasn't good enough. Kov hits hard. He wrecked that kid from London, Anthony Yarde, who is a big strong guy. He won't fight again soon and when he does I am sure he will be exposed soon. Damaging damaging fight. Canelos people didn't want any of that. So something was worked out. Its really simple. Kov gets told to take it easy, here's a few quid., go through the motions.
Twitter This is the equivalent of Pedro Serrano needing "extra power" in Major League even though he already had a lot of power
Big punchers aren’t big punchers because they can punch hard. Almost any boxer is a big puncher when they load up and commit. Big punchers are big punchers because they have the reflexes and timing to make the risk-reward ratio of committing to punches worthwhile. People don’t appreciate the athleticism it takes to be a puncher and have “hands”. Kov doesn’t have “hands” anymore, he’s probably been getting caught and hurt sparring and he clearly made a conscious effort to transform his style by not committing to punches anymore. You can see the change clearly in his two fights with Alvarez.
His hands? That's interesting. That wasn't your initial theory though. So you think he has injured hands and that's why he pulled his punches? In that case, at least we agree he pulled his punches.
No, Double Android. “Hands” is the ability to stand in an opponents punching range, see and respond to incoming punches and see openings for your own punches. Mid range fighting basically. “Throwing hands”. A guy like Andy Ruiz is all hands and no feet. A guy like Tyson Fury is all feet and no hands.
We can say it’s speculation, but something about that felt off about that whole affair. From beginning to end. It’s like with pro wrestling where everyone knows the outcomes are predetermined and they try to take you on the ride and surprise you with an unexpected finish, but in this case, you just KNEW that something fishy was going to go down. Either Canelo was going to get a unanimous decision that he wasn’t close to earning, or the unthinkable where Canelo could KO Kovalev yet couldn’t finish off a litany of champions and former champions at 154 and 160. If I were a fighter and I partook in an event that was pre determined, I too would TAKE a clean punch to make it look as convincing as possible as opposed to pulling a Bruce Seldon and have everyone obviously yelling “fix!” in the aftermath. So while I myself can’t verify the fight was fixed, there’s a lot of suspicious circumstances about that fight that make me seriously consider that argument and I am not generally a conspiracy theorist.
I have to agree that Wlad was essentially breaking AJ’s rhythm up with the jab and occasional clean right hand. Wlad’s killer instinct or lack there of, is what let him down. He let AJ off the hook in the next few rounds.
Not loaded, opponents have just argued over the way his gloves are wrapped and stacking. Same issue with Tito’s gloves. It’s legal in some commissions and not allowed in others. Nevada Athletic Commission determines Canelo's hand wraps are within its rules Hand-wrapping controversy hangs over Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin fight ... again
Seems hard to fathom this would be legal: “But they put a layer of gauze on and then two or three layers of tape on top of that, and then gauze and tape again. That’s illegal."
