Your friend is correct. Terrible opening for a series. I’m surprised you liked GoT but then I’m surprised you actually watched a show at all.

I was a late GOT viewer as season 1 was practically over when I started watching it mainly because of all the hype it received online. TBH I wasn't impressed with the white walkers opening, didn't knew what the hell was happening with these characters visiting that Winterfell place or who was what. Only the non-burning naked girl caught my attention and the boy pushed from the window cliffhanger. Episode 2 wasn't better, but I kept watching. Same with the Witcher (I am NOT saying this show is on the same level. Nothing on tv is).

Yeah season one is better on second viewing only because you know the characters. It was definitely slow.

Why are you surprised I liked it? I find it surprising anyone could find the first season slow and boring, I thought it was great. Perhaps you and Panchy are more into the fight scenes, nudity and dragon CGI. To me the story, drama, dialogue and characters were what made that show so amazing.

As far as me actually watching shows you’re right about that. I could barely make time to watch the final season and there are other shows I want to watch but I just never seem to have time for any.

I said it was slow, not boring. GoT fight scenes aren’t any great shakes. The show got noticeably worse once they deviated from the source material and I haven’t bothered with the last season for that reason.

Yeah it was slow...but NOT BORING...love the dialogue(Tyrion and Jon Snow, Tyrion and his father, Ned and Robert, Cersei and Robert, etc...)..when those dragons started getting bigger and becoming more part of the story(season 4 onward) the great dialogue were less and less...

Truth is the whole Daenerys story arc was my least favorite....I don't care for Dragons....or bitches who think they deserve shit because of their family name....

I think slow and boring are nearly the same thing and I see both as negative critiques of the show. I think there were slow moments in certain episodes but I wouldn’t describe the show itself as slow.

Also how could you even enjoy GOT’s if you thought Dany’s story was the least interesting. Her’s was probably my favorite as no other character showed such a huge personality growth from shy girl, to woman, to queen, to conqueror. I even enjoyed the dragons and their growth curve. IMO Brandon had by far the most boring story.

I believe an easy way to explain Dany laying waste to Kings Landing was to have her be in a long mourning over the death of her second dragon. Instead of having her shrug it off and go make out with John they should have focused on how broken up about it she was and show it leading to her making bad decisions before finally taking out her pain on the city.

That is where the producers, writers, directors failed: they rushed things and sacrificed the characters (and story logic) in the process. GOT last season needed to be at least 12 episodes long to show Dany's slow descend into madness. As it stands is just an epic WTF that contradicts everything we knew about the characters or how the show was build. I still don't understand why HBO or the producers wanted to end this show so bad and so fast. It is head scratching. The ending was worst than LOST ending. It ruined the whole thing.

I forgot about Bran....his story was indeed the worse. It was okay all the way until he became the 3 eye raven....

With Dany after her dragons were grown it became about her DRAGONS more than her. She always used her dragons(for the wizards, to acquire the unsullies) but it was her who free the slave cities...not the dragons...After a few seasons I didn't care about her...IMO she should've died in the bettle of Winterfell......

At the end I prefer Sansa's story arc.....

Dany was the best character. Jon Snow know nothing til the end and Bran's ending as the king was as bad as if they had chosen the fat guy to be king.

You make duplicate threads and don’t give a shit when it’s pointed out to you and now you act like you want post conversations to be spot on. Quit trolling.

Apparently the directors were tired of being tied to the series and wanted to move on. The smart thing for both HBO and the directors to do was find someone else to finish the series.

It never became more about her dragons than just her. They were a small part of her story until the final two seasons and even then they were at most an equal part of Dany’s arc.

Watched the rest of it. It does get better but the pacing of this show is awful. Someone tried to be artful with the time changes in this show and if it was say, season two or three of an established show, you could probably get away with it. The first season is better used to establish characters and the world rather than time trickery.

Bear in mind that I have played The Witcher games a little and spent time looking into the mythos and I still found some of this season confusing. I’m not sure how conducive to brand new viewers this will be.

The main issue is that it leads to death scenes that are treated as emotional and poignant but fall flat because you have no idea who the character is or their importance until later in the show. It makes alot of the story anti climatic.

That being said, Cavill is good but underused early. Yen is an unlikeable character but has nice tits. You don’t get to know Ciri at all so don’t hold out for that. Some of the casting decisions are questionable at best. Triss in particular stood out.

I really hope Hollywood grows out of the need to diversify everything they get their hands on for no good reason. This is a Slavic myth after all and some of the choices are jarring. Won’t be a problem for casual viewers though.

There’s a good base for a show here and assuming they get another season, they’ll likely learn from this season’s shortcomings.

My major disappointment here is that the world of The Witcher is one I find very interesting. Grimm’s fairytale style myths up against mutated monster hunters make a good premise. Hopefully there’ll be more of that in future and less of the war stuff because you’re all correct: it’s not GoT. It also doesn’t have to be.

If you’re on the fence but the premise interests you, I would say watch it but be prepared for slow moments. If the mythology itself doesn’t interest you then this is one to safely skip.

Watched the first two episodes. Don't understand the hype so far. 1st episode looked amateur. Like an R rated version of a CW show. 2nd episode was better, but not quite good.

I'll refrain from comparing it to GOT, as that's not fair to any show, but if the budget to "The Witcher" is what they say it is (roughly the same as GOT), then there's no excuse for it to look as cheap as it does.

I liked Cavill as "Superman", not so much here. He's great in the fight scenes and when he has to be physical, but doesn't have much in the way of charisma. Might just be the material, but I'd have preferred to see someone more grizzled and interesting in the role.

I'll give it a chance and watch a bit further, but don't really have high hopes.

Well, I powered through this series finally. We basically had to turn it into bad movie night, to continue watching it.

Objectively, this is NOT a quality show, even if it's not made with me in mind. It's just pretty shit all the way through. Worst part has to be the editing (followed closely by the dialogue), which is some of the worst I've ever seen on a supposedly high budget endeavor.

We've also decided to use the term "Law of Surprise", in our regular everyday life, to get out of jams, and also maybe to decide what we may be eating for dinner that night.

    LO fucking L!

    Shit/10

I still don’t get finishing a series you obviously don’t enjoy just because you started it. I get the “what else you gonna do” idea but why not get out of it early and try something else?

If I try a new series that doesn’t have a lot of hype behind it they have episode 1 to lure me in or I’m out. If I’m seeing bad fundamentals (dialogue, editing, pacing, etc) that’s even more evidence that the show isn’t up to par and I’m shutting it off. For instance, after I went and saw the Force Awakens much of the shit fundamentals in that film caused me to abandon all follow up films of that series to this day. My time is just too precious.

I don't think I can give you an answer you're going to like, Pound Cake. Sometimes we watch bad shit as a family, just for fun. Sometimes I get caught up in the hype of something everybody else is talking about and I end up watching it, even if I don't like it because I was taught to eat all the food on my plate growing up..................or whatever.

I don't think there's that much great stuff out there, unless you're spending a fortune on all the streaming services, and we've cut the cord on a lot of stuff recently.

Plus we only have one TV as family policy, and it's mostly only garbage that we can all agree on. I save stuff like "Mad Men" or "Breaking Bad" to catch up on, until after they've crashed or gone to bed. My wife usually sneaks in her medical and vet shows that I don't give a shit about, before I even sit down in front of the TV.
