Watched season 1 several years back. Thought it was awful. Thought maybe it gets better in the later seasons but then read that season 1 was the best season ... garbage
The first two seasons of Dexter were awesome - then I remember losing interest in season 3 and never watching it again. Basically the same as House of Cards - loved the first two seasons, then it went to shit.
It could be a sign o' the times. When it first came oot, it seemed highly original and subversive and noo, compared tae modern day telly, it's no' that interesting. Ah watched the whole series and enjoyed most o' it at the time, but tried tae rewatch it recently and, over ten years later, the world's moved on.
What was so awesome about it? I just recall a guy finding a bad guy and proceeding to torture /kill him. Wash rinse repeat...
It was awesome because at the time it was a new concept, and early on it was executed very well. Dexter's formula (the righteous serial killer) has been copied to death (no pun intended) since, see the show "You" as a prime example. The novelty wore off, but before it did? It was a compelling watch.
The novelty and sense of jeopardy ran out after 2-3 series, it then became a case of introducing a new Big Bad, wait for Dexter to bump him off, rinse and repeat...and the ending was pathetic
It took me longer tae become bored o' the formula, but Ah cannae disagree wi' yer observations. It wiz bloody good fun fer awhile. 'The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones.'
There's probably a whole long thread on "Dexter" on this site from back in the day. Going by memory, it was a very good show for the first couple seasons, and then was hit or miss from season to season after that, with the last couple seasons probably not the least bit neccessary.
There’s a lottae ‘probably’s’ been written aroond here... ‘probably’ is the sign o’ the unsure fanny.
I take it back Mr. Bill-O-Bong. There's exactly 17 separate threads on this website dedicated to "Dexter", with anywhere from 1 to 50 responses in each thread. Boss even has a reply in at least one of those threads from 7 or so years ago that mirrors almost exactly how he started this thread. Once again proving he's an un-creative, lazy fucking thread starter. Search Results for Query: dexter | FIGHTBEAT.COM FORUMS
It wiz a fair point from, Noble - loadae threads. Next 'woke' point... hoo aboot o' all that plastic Dexter wastes when he offs someone, plus he dumps it in the sea! Ootrage.
In the first season there were some comparisons made between Dexter and Jesus. He was the protector of the weak, punisher of the wrongdoers and able to carry sins from all bad deeds. The point is underlined when a child who sees him describes him as Jesus for the police drawer
The premise seemed ridiculous and the actor looked like a dopey looking jock so I never bothered watching
If you've never seen it, the actor who played Dexter (Michael C Hall) starred in a movie called Cold in July, which is an excellent flick well worth a watch.
Michael C. Hall was very good in it, as he was in "Six Feet Under". It started to suck because they wrote themselves into a corner within a couple of seasons and it just became more and more implausible as it went on. It was also pretty erratic. Some seasons were objectively much better then others, and there wasn't much rhyme or reason to it, other then maybe they had different writers for each season.
It just followed the same trajectory as most shows. 97% of them run out of ideas after 2-3 seasons, and have to resort to Jumping the Shark to stay relevant. Only a precious, precious few remain quality after 3 seasons.
They also ended it when they should have ended it. They stuck to their 5 season arc and didn't get greedy.
None of these shitty shows are any good: just overrated beyond belief. The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, House Of Cards...just faggot-material for no-real-life-experience cunts.
