    Nobody saw that coming.

If anything,..those who thought that Sanchez would win would do so later in the fight.
Gomez was a beast, and Sanchez pretty much won the fight in the 1st round

Probably the most perfect fight that any boxer ever fought.
Samchez beats any featherweight ever that night

It was a great performance by Sal, easily the best of his (brief) career, but I dunno if I'd rank it as the best performance of all time.

Gomez fought a stupid fight. He had totally fallen in love with his power, and tried to bang out Sanchez early, when he should have been using his legs and boxing.

Would the result have been the same regardless? Possibly, but I feel it would have been more competitive had Gomez fought smarter.

I'm not sure Sanchez beats every featherweight in history that night. Not off beating a guy who's prime was at 122.

    agREED...

A Sanchez Decision Win was Certainly IN the Realm of Possibility, But Like You Said, NOBODY Saw Him SHIT KICKING Gomez in 1-Sided Fashion...

In Fact, if You Told Boxing Fans Ahead of Time the Bout Wouldn't Be Competitive @ All and End in the 8th, the Vast Majority Would've ASSumed Gomez Stopped Sanchez...

Thing is, that punch that Sanchez hurt Gomez with was kind of one in a million. Would've liked to see what happens without it.

The punch wasnt one in a million. Sanchez was a superb counterpuncher, and Gomez played right into his game.

I would have liked to see what would have happened if Gomez fought Sanchez the way he did Zarate.

Gomez was the more talented long range boxer of the two. Instead he fell into his own destroyer hype, and tried to take Sanchez out early... when that wasnt who Gomez was.

Gomez was at his best outboxing guys THEN systematically destroying him.

Would it have changed the outcome? Probably not. Sanchez probably had his number.

But it would have given Gomez a better shot.

That punch hit Gomez while he was falling off balance.

I think you need to rewatch the fight, Doub.

Sanchez slipped a Gomez right hand, then immediately countered with his own right hand that knocked Gomez down and caught him with a left hook as he was going down.

It was nothing "one in a million" about it - nothing more than slip/counter 101 and Sanchez did it in all his fights.

He put on a clinic of slipping the right hand and countering w/his own against Little Red Lopez.

But i think that left hook is what really hurt him. And hitting a guy while he's in the process of falling seems one in a million to me. I'll have to watch it again.

Going back to the original point, I still don't know how Sanchez would have fared against Pedroza, who would have fought him much differently than Gomez did.

I had Sal all the way in that one. Could not bet it as I was in Guam but had I been in the CONUS I would have cleaned house. I had seen Sanchez beat Trinidad Sr. and knew a little guy like Bazooka didn't have the guns to beat him if he took Little Red apart twice as bad and easy as he did.

    Yep...

Drilled Gomez w/a Right Hook/Uppercut Which CAUSED the Fall and Punctuated It w/a Left Hook/Uppercut Before He Landed...

Sanchez Was a Precise, Accurate Counter-Puncher...When He SAW Countering Opportunities He FIRED...Maybe Not a Combination Sanchez Landed Frequently, But Something was ALWAYS Capable Of, Certainly...
