Lately I have noticed an increase of new upcoming artists that specialize in what it is being called New Retro Wave which basically is a throwback to the sounds of the 80s with heavy emphasis on the synthesizer. I think that these young talents are capturing the vibes and essence of the music that predominated in the 80's decade, a period that many young folks wish they had lived (maybe the movies of that time idealized it for them or maybe that era was indeed much better than now).

While I don't think this will become a big trend any time soon, it is interesting to see artists like Timecop 1983, Fahrenheit, Nina and others gathering following of their own without the help of the big record labels.

Here is a sample of videos.

I think that a lot of the big synth producers such as Roland and Korg haven't really been able to improve on their classic models, which were the go-to instruments for the period. As it is always harked back to as the golden age of synthesisers, a lot of electronic musicians stubbornly refuse to move on. Also, now that these companies are producing more affordable boutique versions of these hardware synths and with the availability of good soft synth replicas, these instruments will comprise the majority of what's in a young musician's home studio. It's inevitable to me that you're going to get a lot of new music that has that 80's feel. I don't really have a problem with it but I really wish more people would embrace the new synthesisers made by smaller companies like Critter & Guitari which are producing awesome instruments with totally unique sounds, there's so much scope to make great new music and it just feels like people are being lazy.

Is there any video were these new synthesizers are used for comparison? Also these new bands/artists aren't trying to create new music sounds, but to imitate the one from the 80's.

I don't doubt that there are some who are doing that, there was some fantastic electronic music from that time period so it makes sense people would follow that template. Just saying there are lots of musicians who are probably not trying consciously to get that sound but because they're using a lot of the same instruments and patches they end up sounding like that anyway.
