And that effectiveness is not only a function of style but also the fighter's build.

Wouldn't you say Arguello was a larger man than Marcel?

    He was considerably taller

They both weighed 126 pounds ... the fact that Arguello would one day still be an effective fighter three weight classes up the scales was irrelevant in their match ... the fact that Aaron Pryor would hypothetically run over Ernesto Marcel had no bearing on Marcel defeating Alexis Arguello just as Marvin Hagler hypothetically obliterating a pudgy Esteban DeJesus had no bearing on the latter defeating and twice decking Roberto Duran ... Duran wasn’t 5’7 160 to Esteban’s 5’7 135... he was 135... the same size guy

Marcel gave Duran a good fight. Why didn't he move to 147 and get a rematch?

Marcel might very well be THE best fighter not in the HOF, and that's saying a lot.

Marcel would beat the VAST VAST majority of featherweights in history.

so ridiculous to only consider weight to judge of size. You can easily take or lose 10 pounds in a week

    This.

Like I said, Brandon Rios was walking into the ring heavier than Ray Robinson.

I guess that makes Rios the bigger man...

I still dont think theres any debate. Spinks was a bigger man than Ward. But I'm dropping it cause it's a moot point in this matchup, cause Spinks was the just the MUCH better of the two.

I’m guessing because he was retired for like 7 years when Duran was at 147

    Brandon Rios ... Ray Robinson

Yet ANOTHER example of “taller = bigger”

Panama Al Brown was a bigger man than Dwight Qawi, damnit!
