Brown had just lost a close fight to Starling before McCrory was kayoed by Curry. Suppose instead Brown had somehow gotten a shot at McCrory's world title.

McCrory was better than given credit for, but still, I don't think he beats Brown.

Don't forget, McCrory was given Hell by Colin Jones.

    Simon stops him in 11.

Close fight? What was your score?

Starling bossed Simon Brown and walked him down... won it going away despite one retarded judge’s scorecard ... Brown might’ve edged three rounds late when Starling was coasting on his large lead (an annoying habit of his)

Brown would’ve had a decent shot against McCrory at that point but I think getting beat by Starling was a good experience for Brown and helped him become a better fighter within a couple of years ... I’d favor the more experienced Brown of 1987 or 88 to stop 1985 McCrory late or at least win a clear cut decision

Yeah, Jones was no bum. He had more raw power than Brown, probably.

Brown was a helluva lot more skilled though.

Definitely, much better defensively and better at integrating offense and defense

Brown patterned himself off of Napoles, and in a couple of his prime fights he does try to use Napoles' slipping and countering techniques.

Problem is he lacked Napoles' footwork and intelligence, and at some point he lost the plot and just became a brawler.

Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you.

How about Davis vs. Brown? Was that close?

If you gave Brown 4 rounds against Moochie, you’re related to the guy

Aaron Davis? What does that have to do with anything

    I'm with McDogg.

I haven't watched Starling-Brown in a good 5 years (probably will rewatch it this week), but I remember it being not too far off from a shut out.

Starling boxed the shit outta Brown.

Brown vs. Davis was a good fight too. How about that one?

I had Davis winning narrowly, though I recall Brown coming on strong at the end.

Aaron Davis vs Jose Luis Lopez was also an action packed fight, but that one wasn't particularly close. Lopez beat the Hell outta Davis.

Loved Lopez had he been a dedicated athlete and not spent his time surfing, with broads and smoking weed and drinking Mexican beer he could have been an all timer. Great balance and crisp counter punches had moments of brilliance and super tough but could not sustain due to his lifestyle which is why he lost to an inferior fighter in James Page whom he should have beaten the shit out of. He was like Danny Lopez he didn't slip much and the more you hit him the madder and better he got.
