First, I specified it was debatable only in terms of restoring his status. It is probably his biggest possible payday other than Pacquiao so I admit it's a no-brainer. But imo, Pacquiao or Crawford would've been a better choice, all else equal. You asked what does he have to lose. But my point is, he has less to gain than you might think. If by some chance he were to win he's not going to get any credit - people will just make excuses for Spence. And on the other hand, in all likelihood he will lose which will leave him winless against all three of the top welters with PBC, basically putting him 6th in the division if he's lucky.

 

I always scold myself for even contemplating matters like this. As a fan, I just want to see the best fights and find it infuriating that money and politics stand in the way of so many of them getting made. But it "is" easy to slip into manager mode and start thinking about things from the perspective of the fighters and their goal to make as much money as possible. But man it's so at odds with what I want to see as a fan. It's a shame it works that way.

 

I would like to see how Spence reacts to Danny Garcia no look left hook! Danny’s chances are better especially because we don’t know how Spence will react to punches after that near death accident.

 

Why in the world did Soence agree to fighting Danny boy during corona? He could fight him in front of NO FANS. Better off fighting a stiff in front of no fans, and then fight Danny in the new Rams stadium in front of 60K next year

 

I don't think you're understanding the impact of Covid.

Stadiums won't back to entertaining that capacity of fans next year, Dog. Not unless there's a vaccine that's mass produced for everyone (unlikely). A vaccine that passes on safety and efficacy and can be administered to millions of people all within one year? That's fantasy, despite what Don the Con tells dumb people.

If there's no vaccine in 2021, and if there's subsequent waves of outbreak, then athletes will be playing/fighting in front of zero fans for awhile. And if not zero fans, then they'll be capacity restrictions.

That's just the reality. It's NOT just the snap of your fingers and stadiums/arenas will be back to being filled. It's gonna take a few years before the world of sports returns to normalcy.

Hence, Spence is gonna be broke as fuck if he sits around waiting for Covid to end. Take these big fights NOW!

There was a similar thing with Tyson in the late 80s when people said Tyson really needed a chauffeur.

There was the alleged suicide attempt when he drove into a tree and was knocked unconscious, although he claimed he just lost control of the car. Then he got 2 speeding tickets in a week. Then he crashed his Bentley into a parked car. He tried to give the Bentley to the police officer who arrived at the scene.

 

Not sure if it's true but i heard somewhere he bought another Lamborghini after the one he was driving ran out of gas.
