Maybe the most forgotten of any Puerto Rican champion. This guy looked like a million bucks in lifting the super bantamweight title from Lorris Stecca - actually looked like a possible heir to Wilfredo Gomez. But for whatever reason, he then suffered from inactivity and moved up to 126 to face Jeff Fenech for a vacant belt, and Fenech beat the Holy shit outta him and that was effectively it for him. Still, as you can see, he had talent. One of the bigger punchers in the history of 122.
Both his fights with Lorrie Stecca are on YouTube, and in both he stops Stecca violently. He had a deadly left hook. You might wanna also check out his fight with Fenech, as IMO it was Fenech's best career performance. Callejas was finished after the beating Fenech gave him.
Captain Obvious needs to fuck off already. Honestly, it was amusing in the beginning, now it's highly annoying and childish. Go the fuck away and die.
Unlike other Rican boxers, Victor Luvi Callejas did well after retiring from boxing and is currently the president of the Puerto Rico Professional Boxing Commission.
I literally never heard of either of these guys and I certainly didn't know there was any European interruption of the domination of the lower divisions by Asians/Latins in that period. But Stecca was champ for "3 months" per Wikipedia. Also per Wikipedia is the matter of the punch landed by Callejas in the rematch. I think Stecca was already leaping backwards when it lands but it looks very devestating even if Stecca beat the count pretty handy. The commentators voice makes it sound like a video game effect. Fenech was a really remarkable fighter who'd be raking it in today. Instead he is doing instructional videos for Title Boxing Bring out the gimp.
