Dave Tiberi versus James Toney - something was extremely wrong there. Pernell Whitaker vs. both Jose Luis Ramirez and Julio Cesar Chavez.
Is it fair to say Shakur Stevenson is well on his way to becoming the greatest puerto rican fighter of our times?
Yeah I recalled the Tiberi thing because a lot of brothers were coming out and saying that "Toney Won" and the papers all had Tiberi winning.
I'm late to the party, but while race will ALWAYS be a big part of boxing, this is a sport which will always be run first and foremost on green. Whichever color fighter generates the more green will always receive the favoritism.
Aside from money, it also depends on which fighter is aligned with the more connected promoter. Hence why DLH, despite being the biggest cash cow in boxing in 99, loses a decision to Trinidad. Because the ONLY promoter in boxing history with more pull than Arum was DK.
"VIVA PUERTA REECA!!!"- Don King. In may regards Oscar deserved fuck all that night. Shameless running.
I had DLH-Trinidad a draw. And while I won't always resort to "If it was a 15 rounder..." in this case, I will. If it was a 15 rounder Oscar would have been fucked.
He actually came out and said "At least I didn't lose in a fashion that affects my endorsements" I think it was then that we should have realized what was coming over the next 20 years....... not just in boxing, but in society. ME ME ME.
Race is overrated in boxing. Apart from Cooney Holmes, it barely has any incidence in the us and western europe (the golota-bowe fights were more of an ethnic war than a race thing imo) Maybe it has more of an impact for latino latino fighter. Rebember Morales calling Barrera an indios and it was supposedly a big deal
