Hatton didn't do much at welter but he was way more skillful than Mayorga. Also Mayorga fought nothing like the two ATGs that beat Hatton. How does it go?
It's weirdly hard to picture. If Hatton could get consistently inside Mayorga's usual range of wide looping punches and work over the body to wear his man out he might win. I think he's probably too small though. Also while neither guy was exactly a defensive wizard the lapses would cost Hatton a lot more.
Mayorga by stoppage. Very little doubt in my mind. Hatton was trash at welterweight. He depended on physically bullying guys at 140, but against Mayorga that goes out the window because Mayorga was bigger and stronger. I also don't see Hatton hitting hard enough at 147 to deter Mayorga in the least bit. I think Mayorga beats Ricky up, and eventually catches him with a big shot that stops him.
Close fights for a while, but i think mayorga machismo would be too much for hatton to handle at the end
A competitive beatdown for 5-7 rounds....both can only come forward. Hatton has the speed footwork/hands advantage but that about it. Hatton only shot is a lucky body shot...but he doesn't hit hard enough imo or has the chin/defense to keep Mayorga' looping punches from rocking him coming in/out of range... Mayorga by KO 7
Mayorga will let Hatton take a free shot at his chin, will laugh at him at then demolishes him within six rounds. Then celebrates by smoking a Marlboro in the ring.
How well did Mayorga take it to the body in his 147 lb days? It’s been awhile since I have seen the Forrest fights. Tito doubled him over with the first hard body shot he landed, but that was at 160, and of course, it was Tito. To be generous to Hatton, he struggled at 147 but that was against a southpaw with a much different style than Mayorga (Collazo) and against an ATG in Floyd. That said, Mayorga probably wins by stoppage.
Yeah i'd go with that ^ Hatton was probably a slightly better 140er than Mayorga was 147er but that wouldn't help him here
