Same type of thread as the Leonard vs Whitaker topic Ugo started earlier.

Who do you consider greater and better between Hagler and Chavez?

I'd say Marvin for both, but interested to hear cases for JCC.

I think Marvin was greater based on deeper resume.

REED Thinks Chavez is Greater Because He Successfully Moved Up 3 Weight Classes, Whereas Hagler Was a Career Middleweight Whose Best Names were SMALLER Men Moving Up...

Sure, Hagler's Resume is Deeeeper Because of Leonard, Duran, Hearns But They ALL Moved Up to Make Those Fights Happen:Dont:...

Not Entirely Hagler's Fault, Because Leonard/Duran/Hearns had the BENEFIT of the '54lb Division to Acclimate Themselves Before Attacking '60, While Hagler Would've Had to Make a LEGIT 15 Pound Leap to '75 Back Then...& Yeah, '68 Didn't Come About Until the Tail End of Hagler's Career...

But REED Still Thinks Chavez CLEARLY Accomplished More and Was Therefore Greater...

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, but the lost to srl is a huge black mark on hagler resume. A bit embarassing that he lost (even if it was controversial) to a half retired ww.

Agreed with reid. Hagler was better, but chavez is clearly greater

It's tough. I agree Chavez was greater. There's plenty of evidence to make that case. However, on the other side, if you say Hagler was better, it's hard to say what evidence there is of it.

I'd rank Chavez as the greater, as he is among the most legendary fighters ever and a Tyson-like superstar for Mexican fans.

However there are less middleweights I'd pick over Hagler than there are fighters around Chavez's class who I'd pick over him, so I can see the argument for Hagler being better

Hagler Could Beat You More Ways than Chavez Could, from the Pocket or from Range...

Better Jab than Chavez, Ability to Switch Stances w/a PURPOSE...Chavez was a Better BODY Puncher, but Hagler was Equally Adept @ Applying Relentless Pressure & Their Chins were Both STOUT...

There Isn't a Cavernous Gap btwn Them, but Hagler was a Bit Better in REED's Opinion...

I don't see much of an argument in terms of better, though the case for Chavez as greater is compelling.

In pure quality, Marvin was just a lot more versatile with many more tools at his disposal.

Chavez's main attributes were his legendary chin and stamina, and Hagler has him equaled in both those categories.
