I read his recently published biography. That didn't reveal much new but it was an easy read and described interestingly how important a character Camach was among his peers
I found it informative. I mean, its not like Tyson story, which has been told to death. There's still a lot of new things to learn about the Camacho story, and I learned things about him I never knew. It also highlighted just how huge his addiction was. I mean, we all knew he was a cokehead, but you learn just how huge a junkie he was.
NATHAN Sadder Than a Grieving Matriarch and the Hurt is Still FRESH In Camacho's Mother... REED Vividly Recalls Her Attending All of Macho's Fights and Getting in the Ring Afterwards, Win, Lose or Draw...As a Certified "Momma's Boy" There's Noooooooooo BIGGER Thrill Than Making Your Mother Proud...Macho Accomplished That Mission Many Times Over... Camacho's Sisters Obviously ADORED Him Also... Surprised to Learn Macho was Using Coke as Early as 17...Didn't Know He Forfeited a $7mil Payday to Face Roy Jones in Africa Either...Literally Quit in the Middle of Training and Told His Team He'd Rather Be Getting HIGH Somewhere... If Macho Were Alive Today, REED Could EASILY See Him Working His Way Back into Shape and Partaking In Some Tyson-Roy Type of Exhibitions...Unfortunately, He LIVED By the Street Life and Eventually DIED By It... Good Watch, Excellent Fight Footage (Never Saw Macho in the NY Golden Gloves Until the Documentary) and a Fitting Tribute To an Unforgettable Boxing Legend... R.I.P. Macho Man!!! REED
Haven’t seen it yet but I’m going to watch it later. I read about it on The Ring’s website which told one of the wild stories about his drug abuse. Hector Camacho’s unique story hardly could be condensed into a mere 90 minutes - The Ring
17 is not that early for using coke. Id say its pretty much the "regular" age. But poor guy obviously was a huge junkie
17 Isn't That Early to EXPERIMENT w/Coke, but Per the Documentary Macho was a REGULAR Coke User by Then... Admittedly, REED's Never Tried Anything Other Than Marijuana, but 17 Seems Early AF to Be REGULARLY Snorting Lines... REED
Tim Ryan Tells That Story in the Doc as Well... There's Another Instance, After a Win, Where Camacho Breaks Down and CRIES in Ryan's Arms, Saying "I Just Hope Everybody Keeps Supporting Me, Be My Friend, Cause I Need Friends"... SAD Shit... REED
REED Was Very Curious to See How The Documentary Handled the Rosario Fight... Figured It'd Be GLOSSED OVER and Painted in the Most Favorable Way for Camacho's Sake...But It Was Treated HONESTLY...The Filmmaker Didn't Run from the Fact Macho was Never Quite the Same After That Bout... REED
The mexican border....kilo of coke...jump out screaming "where is chavez"....buries the coke....then spends hours digging holes trying to find the coke... .....that's some funny shit. Camacho was crazy the only mofo who drives into mexico with a kilo...
There was an old story about Camacho talking shit in an old boxing mag interview saying if he ever had the chance to fight Whitaker, he would have tortured him in the ring. And shortly after that he and Whitaker ran into each other somewhere and Whitaker got in his face about that interview. And Macho said "Come on, you know how it is, man" and tried to laugh it off and leave while Whitaker was still dogging him.
I just found this out, they had charged 2 guys in his murder, but the case fell apart after a witness left PR Case Of Hector Camacho's Murder Suspects Dropped After Key Witness Flees Puerto Rico | Will "Macho" Ever Receive Justice? - The Shadow League
I remember living in San José Ca at the time of Chavez vs Camacho. We went out clubbing that night after watching the fight. And down town was filled with cars full of Chavez fans waving Mexican flags as if México had just won the world cup. Thats how big Camacho was back then. He played the villian well the guy you loved to hate.
