I would note that McCallum wasn't as mobile on his feet as Hopkins. He'd be in Tito's range. I certainly ain't picking Trinidad, just playing Devil's Advocate. McCallum took the best shots of Jackson, so I definitely think he could handle Tito's power.
Yep, Tito is definitely a handful for anybody who trades with him and McCallum would know he had been in a bruising affair, but likewise I can't see a scenario where Tito wins
You have to go with McCallum. Tito is not going to outbox him and i don't see his power making enough of a difference. Would be a good one though and Trinidad would have his moments.
McCallum had a great chin. And unlike most, he would've traded with Trinidad. I would actually expect him to knock Trinidad out, given Trinidad's aggression.
I go with McCallum, He can knockout Trinidad. McCallum is the stronger man in the ring, as well as the superior technician. The body shots of McCallum against the sometimes soft midsection of Trinidad would take their toll.
I think in my mind Tito would be competitive early but McCallum would wear him down and stop him late Is this a different fight if Tito had the magic wraps?
You joke but there is a lot of circumstantial evidence to suggest Tito indeed benefitted for much of his career from illegal wraps. Plus, if you go nack and study his fights, it also appears his hands were artificially heavy.
Give it up, Double. It's very old. Trinidad did not have artificial power. He had God-given knockout power.
Not only that, but as a jr. MW, McCallum was usually an aggressive fighter who looked to get in close in order to work the body. It wasn't until after the Kalambay loss (and a change of trainers IIRC) that he expanded his style to be more of an outside boxer and counterpuncher. (I can't remember if I posted on this already in the "2 versions of the same fighter" thread, but I certainly think McCallum qualifies.) I'd favor McCallum to outbox Tito at 160, but at 154 I think this is more of an even fight than others might think. It would be interesting to see how Tito responds to someone working his body more than probably any other opponent ever did, however.
