This. I don't trust Kelley's chin, stamina, or facial tissues to hold up under Paez's swarming attack.
Hmm, not really confident either way. What i would say is this would make a great undercard fight compared to the garbage boxing fans are usually subjected to.
It would have made for a terrific B.A.D. main event. Cause ya know, Lampley-Merchant-Roy is just a taaaaaddddddd bit better than B.Kenny-Serio Mora-Mannix.
I always preferred Steward to Roy. But both were leagues better than Mora. Two of the best non-commentator commentators ever IMO.
I always liked Chick Hearn and Ruben Castillo. Chick knew zero about boxing and said stupid things and Ruben knows a ton about boxing and is funny as can be.
Ruben Castillo was hilarious. Chick Hearn was the greatest NBA play-by-play announcer of all time, and I think he holds that title by a wide margin, but yeah.... he knew fuck all about boxing.
Ruben speaks English; he was born in Billings, Montana, and grew up in Bakersfield, California. They did the fights from the Forum in LA during the late 80s and into the 90s. Off the top of my head, the Lora v Davila fight. Let me think on it for a while and I will post a few in a separate thread.
I was about to post Jose Estrada vs Jesus Poll, but that was Rich Marotta and Ruben Castillo. Watch that telecast though, Castillo was a funny guy. Marotta goes: "Estrada's face is that of a guy who's been through a lot of wars." Castillo: "Well, he must be married then."
Yeah, I know exactly who you guys mean. For some reason, I thought you meant Chucho Castillo. Must've gotten his real name mixed with his chief rival. Ruben (Castillo) is awesome though.
Nah, Chucho Castillo didn't speak a lick of English. I know it's confusing - Ruben Castillo, and Chucho CASTILLO fought RUBEN Olivares.
Rich Marotta is a really good guy. He met a friend of mine at the LA Open golf tournament and when I mentioned that to him, probably a year later, he remembered my friend's name, his wife's name, and the name of my friend's construction company. He was always fun to talk to at the fights.
