Panama has produced a shitload of damn good fighters over the years. Before I list them, bear in mind that I dunno where to rank Panama Al Brown, because there's so little film of him, so I'm keeping him off. The five guys listed below have full fights readily available on them.

I would say the top 5 are:

    1. Duran: Well, duh!
    2. Pedroza
    3. Laguna
    4. Ernesto Marcel
    5. Hilario Zapata

4/5 of those guys are in the HOF, Marcel badly needs to be.

  2. Neil

    Duran is mexican

Well, yeah, technically, but give let's give poor Chavez a break. Duran beats him in every category, at least let JCC have the mantle of Mexican GOAT.

I'd put Al Brown in before Marcel.

Those top 6 fighters rival any countries ever IMO.

Whatever happened to that Duran-Chavez exhibition?

Duran got Covid, and Chavez went out and got more coke.

    And?

The serious answer is that Duran is 70 fucking years old, and probably realized that he could suffer an injury even in a light exhibition.

Chavez probably realized that there's nothing to gain from having an exhibition with a 70-year-old.

I know, but it was proposed quite a long time ago when both could have probably done at least a three rounder for fun. From the little i remember it didn't sound like something made up out of nowhere.

I'm very glad it didn't happen. I dont wanna taint the image of what it would have looked like when they were young. I didn't wanna see two geriatrics out there making a fool of themselves.

Let's keep the mythical image of 77 Duran vs 87 Chavez as the only image of this matchup.

Duran is Mexican? Never knew that.

    His father was, yes.

Notice that every other fighter on this is a Black man.

Yeah. But all Panamanians are not black.

I never in my life heard of Duran being referred to as anything other than Panamanian. Amazing.

I don't think there's an issue with the amount of footage available of Brown. I think a bigger issue could be how to assess his quality of opposition.

I have no problem with him being on the list, and his placement.

    Who would honorable mentions be?

I'm thinking guys like Jorge Lujan, Anselmo Moreno, Peppermint Fraser, and Luis Ibarra.

Uh, I will not. I demand an answer. The fact duran is not black in no way outs him as a non-Panamanian.

    1) Duran
    2) Brown
    3) Laguna
    4) Marcel
    5) Pedroza

And just outside the top 5 are Alfonso Lopez, Antonio Amaya and Hilario Zapata

Outside of the US, right? Definitely up there in terms of Latin American countries as a top 5.

    Anyways:

    1. Roberto Duran
    2. Laguna/Marcel
    4. Panama Al Brown
    5. Eusebio Pedroza

Depending on how you scored certain fights or rate certain opponents, Zapata could easily be in there. As it stands, he’s just outside.

    6. Hilario Zapata
    7. Luis Federico Thompson
    8. Anselmo Moreno
    9. Luis Ibarra
    10. Enrique Pinder

    Smooth stylists galore.

    Thompson was very entertaining.

Or at least, his fights with Paret were. Was thinking about buying a package which had him vs Ortega too. Can't imagine that being boring.
