Name 'em. HM to Chavez, Robinson and Chang. #10. Wilfredo Gomez #09. Manny Pacquiao #08. Alexis Arguello #07. Tommy Hearns #06. Ruben Olivares #05. Mike Tyson #04. Jose Napoles #03. Fighting Harada #02. Roberto Duran #01. Joe Louis
Harada's way too high IMO. There's no way in Holy Hell Harada had a better offense than Robinson. Robinson can't be left off a top 5, let alone a top 10. I'd probably replace Harada with Chavez in my top 10, and have him as one of my honorable mentions. The rest of the guys in the top 10 are cool.
Nah, Harada's definitely staying. Second most skilled swarmer ever after Duran IMO, and he was so quick and still had some sting, even all the way up at FW. For me, Robinson's skills are overrated. His body shots are awful, and his inside game is poor. I think Harada's skills are way better, but he's nowhere near as talented. Yeah, I suppose you're right there. I definitely wouldn't have Chavez over Harada, though. I feel like I'm missing Armstrong. Pac has advantages in skills, speed, power and timing as well as all sorts of tricks but it just feels weird having him above Armstrong.
I think Roy has to be up there. I'd rank Roy's offense pretty well above Chang's - both were instinctive fighters, but Roy was the much better instinctive fighter.
At 160 an 168 he sure was, but calling him an offensive beast at 175, where he spent the most of his career, is more than a stretch
Armstrong, sure he could be top ten. Frazier? Really? Foreman would have to go above him, surely. Let alone guys like Tyson and Louis.
Perhaps he misses out on a top 10, but if we expanded to a top 20 I think Trinidad deserves mention. Holyfield would make a top 20 as well.
There's a good five or six heavyweights I'd have before Marciano. He definitely wouldn't make my list. I don't plan on going to twenty, but I feel like if I were, both Holy and Trinidad would miss out. I'd put somebody like Cuevas over both, or Saad/Qawi. Speaking of LHWs, Foster and Moore could make the list. Wondering where I'll slot them in, coz I feel like at least one of them should definitely be top ten. I'm actually thinking I have Duran too high. Was his offense really better than Hearns'?
1. Please explain how Cuevas had a better offense than Trinidad. He had more raw power, but he sure as Hell did not have as many weapons and as much offensive skill. 2. How can Duran drop on your list but Harada stays? Calling Harada's offense better than Duran's would be madness, and the greatest Harada overrating I've ever seen.
You summed it up for me. Raw power. And who said I had Harada above Duran? If I'm putting Hearns above Duran, I'm sure as fuck putting him above Harada.
Raw power doesn't equate offense. If it did, Shavers would be the GOAT offensive fighter. Well, Jackson would be the GOAT in a P4P sense. Both Holy (as a cruiser) and Trinidad were more offensively varied and effective than Pipino.
Offense isn't solely about power. Tua was one the biggest hitters in history and had a limited offense. Conversely, Chocolatito isn't a one punch KO artist but has a marvelous offense.
It's not just about power, but power is partly why I think Cuevas has a better offense than Tito. Power, and relentlessness. His crowding method and crushing ability to put somebody away is more impressive to me than Tito's more refined power punching. I feel like at his best, he could do more damage somebody than Trinidad could.
NO WAY Robinson can be omitted when he has a case for being as high as #1. Dempsey deserves consideration as well IMO.
Yeah, I just can't see a great offense list without Robinson. He's literally the first fighter who pops into my head if you mention great offense.
I dont think I've ever before had to say that Fighting Harada is getting overrated, but yeah, Harada is overrated in this particular thread.
