A Brit vs a Mexican in a drinking contest is probably a wash. Hatton has no chance whatsoever in the fight.
If it’s Ricky at his best at 140, what version of Chavez would you say has slipped enough that Ricky would beat him? 1995? 1996? After that?
It would have to be at least 96 Chavez. But even then its hard to say, because just because Chavez got blown out by DLH doesn't mean he loses to Hatton, considering Oscar was several light years better than Ricky.
I wouldn't sell Hatton that short. Chavez had lost to Willy Wise before he lost to Tszyu. Hatton could most definitely beat him if Willy Wise could.
Nope, he lost to Willy Wise only one fight before the Tszyu loss. It was voted upset of the year in 1999. A lot of the boxing world was scared for Chavez's life going into the Tszyu fight. Like there was a literal fear that Tszyu might kill him. So looking at Chavez's record, I would say Hatton beats 99-00 Chavez for certain. Hatton gives 96 Chavez a tough fight, but I still favor Chavez. 93-94 Chavez batters Hatton, even though he was fading by then. And of course, 89-92 Chavez vs Hatton is just a gross mismatch. Ricky would take a horrific beating.
I am probably one of Hattons biggest supporters, and even I can’t pick him here. I think Hatton gets very underrated and in losing to Pac/PBF, he only lost to a special fighter. I think it would take a special fighter to beat Hatton and Chavez was just that!
I dont think it would take a "special" fighter to beat Hatton. I think there's plenty of "very good" fighters in history who beat him. Prime Vince Philips, for an example, beats the fuck outta Hatton. Even the shot to pieces Philips that Hatton fought managed to go the distance and hurt Ricky pretty badly with a right uppercut. Don't go overboard on Hatton.
I know you don’t like Hatton or at least think he is overrated...although I am perhaps the only guy who overrates him . I don’t think he would lose to very many who are not elite. But I am admittedly biased...I think perhaps you are as well just on the opposite end of the spectrum. Oh well we will have to agree to disagree, I don’t see him just losing to very good fighters
