If Watson could withstand McClellan's early barrage, I think he'd have a shot at outhustling the G-Man to victory.
I think McClellan is a terrible matchup for Watson. Watson blocked/parried shots with his gloves, which works against a wild, looping puncher like a green Benn, but would be backfire against Gerald's accurate right cross. Gerald in 5-6.
I think Watson picks McClellan apart late. McClellan didn't have the advanced offense of a McCallum, nor did he have the stamina. Watson's defence and footwork was more than good enough to stop McClellan from consistently teeing off on him, and given the chin Watson showed vs McCallum, Benn, Eubank and Lee, I don't think McClellan is KOing him with one shot. Watson's stamina showed it was very good, even while drained vs Eubank. I feel like he's capable of taking out a tired McClellan. I think the same basic game plan of "take his best and come back late" wouid work against McClellan as it did Benn. At 168, I feel like it'd be a slaughtering. Watson off the Eubank rematch, showed unbelievable pressure fighting, blending his offense and defence with an extremely high workrate. McClellan on the other hand, had started to get away from the things Kronk of showed him.
I think gman ko him pretty easily. Like x said, Watson liked to block and parry punches and had not a lot of head movement. Seems like a disaster against McClellan
