Who wins this slugfest which would surely be fought at close quarters with tons of violent exchanges.
After countless clean punches and even, scruffy exchanges with no regard for defence or jabs, Pastrano lands a colossal right hand which sends Hill info the afterlife. Probably a Hill decison.
Pastrano impressed me more in beating Johnson than any single Hill performance. Granted, Johnson was no longer in his prime, but it was still more impressive than any Hill win.
A win over a faded Johnson is better than any of Hill's wins, on paper, but I don't for a second think Pastrano won that fight.
While I know this was meant to be in jest, both these fighters (especially Pastrano) were in a surprising number of exciting fights. Wouldn't surprise me to see one of them go on the attack and try to make a battle out of it. As for the outcome, I think Hill's height and reach could be deciding factors in an otherwise evenly matched fight.
One for the purists, this! Both light on their feet but I guess I prefer Pastrano's slightly more economic footwork to Hill's. Virgil could be VERY safety-first and though he could dance away on the outside as well as anyone, I think Pastrano had a better grasp of positional sense when it came to getting into scoring range. That said, Virgil has that extra bit of speed and size here and if Pastrano dozes off during the fight as he was prone to doing then he's got his work cut out. A few guys made Hill look poor when they managed to stay close and take advantage of his lack of an inside game - would Pastrano be consistently willing enough? He did have that in his locker in spurts, more so than Hill...But that's just the problem, in spurts. Hill wasn't everyone's cup of tea (understandably), but he was a focussed performer who didn't allow himself too many mental lapses or deviations from his game plan. I guess in a fight which is going to be mainly fought at distance speed is going to be a vital factor, and Hill has that bit more of it. So I'll go with Hill to take a close decision in a fight which never really comes to the boil and in which there are quite a few close rounds.
