My revised list of the one we did years ago. Top 5 best movies of the 70s:

    1. The Godfather 1
    2. Chinatown
    3. Jaws
    4. Aguirre: The Wrath of God.
    5. Tie between Network & Taxi Driver.

Just barely missing the cut: Apocalypse Now and The Excorcist.

Aguirre was one of the best foreign language films I've ever seen, though this month I plan to watch "Stalker" which is suppose to be one of the greatest sci-fi films ever, so depending on how i like it, the list may change.

I watched Solaris yesterday. It was very good.

    1. Yeah, it is brutal. We're talking arguably the Golden decade of movies.

    2. Your list is very solid, and I debated adding The Conversation. I suppose GF 1 & 2 can be combined.

Chinatown is arguably #1 imo. It's the only movie of the decade I feel that's possibly better than GF.

It grows on you more and more after each viewing.

    At least for me.

Actually, I would say that GF 1 is better than Chinatown.

But Chinatown is considerably better than GF 2, imo.

BTW @Ring Leader, of all the movies you listed, Lady Snowblood is the only one I haven't seen. I see it's on HBO Max, so I'll watch it in the next week.

Looking at the synopsis, I'm guessing Lady Snowblood was the inspiration for the Kill Bill movies.

It's literally the only Terrence Malick movie I think is good.

I think he's one of the most overrated directors of all time, but Days of Heaven was good.

I personally don't think it's a top 10 movie of the 70s, BUT it's highly subjective and I can understand why RL ranked it that highly.

    It's worth watching, it's a quality movie.

KB is basically an overlong and hyperactive remake of Snowblood IMO. Not only does it have the same basic premise, but it recycles many of the same plot devices, action sequences, and even camera angles. And the music that plays at the end of Uma's fight scene with Lucy Liu is the theme song to LS, which was originally sung by the actress who plays the character:

    Interesting.

I'll watch it, possibly Fri or Sat night.

My lists are always changing depending on my mood apparently, so here are the ones I enjoyed the most in the 70's, not necessarily the best ones:

    1. Star Wars (1977)
    2. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    3. Rocky
    4. Logan's Run
    5. Saturday Night Fever

"Forgive me father for I have sinned..." I have Lady Snowblood in my DVD collection collecting dust in a box and still have not watched it (among a bunch of other Asian gems).

Opening 2 minutes of Lady Snowblood:

Is "Sex and Fury" among them? (beware of spoilers if you watch the below vid in its entirety)

    1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (hands down)
    2. The Deer Hunter
    3. The Godfather (both)
    4. Jaws
    5. Suspiria

Too many choices I could cram into that 5th spot, so I tossed a bunch out and went with one that isn’t likely to get a lot of mentions.

All lists so far have been solid. I can't complain about any of them, there's so many different ways a 70s list can go and so many candidates.

Maybe not the '70s best film, but I'd argue its best guilty pleasure.
