Better Amateur Career; Leonard or Hearns?

A comparison between these two which I haven't seen before.

 

Leonard won gold at the Olympics.

Hearns.... lost to Aaron Pryor and.... I got nothin’ else.

 

Obviously scoring knockouts in the amateurs is a different prospect than the pro's but Tommy had a Sven Ottke like record in that regard.

 

Pryor really did a number on a spindly hearns

 

He was a skinny LW at the time and was known more for his speed and mobility than for his power.

 

Yep. The only bout i recall seeing him in was the prior mentioned Pryor one.

 

I don't know the extent of Hearns' achievements as an amateur, but he was not held in as high regard as Leonard. Many people felt Leonard should've won the award for best boxer at the Olympics, but it was given to Howard Davis instead after he won gold following the recent death of his mother.

 

I betcha he wouldn't have in the pros.

 

Probably not, but he did take one hell of a right hand and recover like the Terminator.
