Canelo vs Benavidez is far and away the best all Mexican matchup to be made in the sport. As Neil said, Estrada vs Martinez would be excellent. Hmmm... its a struggle to think of 3 more.
Honestly, I'd much rather see Estrada vs Martinez than Canelo vs Benavidez. Estrada and Martinez just interest me more, and I think the combined ability of Martinez and Estrada is above Canelo and Benavidez. I wanna see Lara vs Navarrete and Cruz vs Valdez.
Not to derail the thread topic but i have little interest in seeing Canelo against anybody at this point. Not that he isn't an excellent fighter or is a bore, but i just can't shake the feeling the deck is stacked in his favor in one way or another. I maybe posted this previously but if it was announced he was taking on Tyson Fury next i wouldn't think "wow, the balls of this guy!" Instead my thought would be there is a reason they are taking this and it aint just about ambition. Put my money on Alvarez.
Another reason why Canelo fights don't interest me is that the division he's in right now is so poor, I can only see him dominating. Plant is literally one of the worst divisions in all of boxing, and Saunders isn't much better. Benavidez is way better than both, but I can't see him making 168 for Canelo without being crippled by drainage.
Canelo-Benavidez is the Clear Answer... The FACT Canelo Rarely, If Ever, Mentions Benavidez By Name Reveals the Level of THREAT He KNOWS Benavidez Poses... Benavidez Needs to SHAME Canelo Into Taking This Fight...Attend EVERY Canelo Fight, Get In the Ring Afterwards, CHALLENGE Him on a Cultural Level, etc... Otherwise, Canelo Will Carry On as if Benavidez DOESN'T Exist... REED
True, But Even AFTER the Fact, Benavidez and Yildirim Were IMMEDIATELY Slotted to Vie for the Vacant WBC Title... Until Canelo Challenged Smith for the WBA Title and Convinced the WBC to Allow Him and Smith Fight for their Vacant Title Simultaneously, That Is... And Now That Canelo Has the WBC Title, SOMEHOW Yildirum is Still in Position as a Mandatory, but Benavidez ISN'T???... To Be Clear, Benavidez Fucked HIMSELF, But the WBC is Complicit in ALLOWING the Fuckery to Continue...And the Reason For it All is the THREAT Canelo KNOWS Benavidez Poses to Him... Put it THIS Way, if Benavidez Never Lost the WBC Title, Canelo WOULDN'T Be as Interested in Fully Unifying '68...And REED's Actually a FAN of Canelo, But it IS What it Is... REED
Ehhhh, if the price tag is right, guys will put aside friendship. Won't happen though. Even if Ramirez does upset Taylor, then that would mean we're looking at a Ramirez vs Lopez fight.
