Who wins? I take Fuji by stoppage. Maidana's power and killer instinct peaked at 140, but as a complete fighter he probably peaked at 147. I see Fuji as the bigger bomber, and I don't think Chino's chin holds up.
A locche maidana fight would have been interesting. The alexander fight makes me thinks chino lose wide, but the pbf fights makes me think hed be able to bully locche
Locche would embarrass Maidana. Again, we're taking 140. The Floyd fight was at 147 and its not fair to speculate on that weight because Locche was never a welterweight. At 140, Maidana lost to Kotelnik, Khan, and was given a tough fight by an ancient Morales. It would be next level Locche hate to suggest Chino could beat him at 140.
I think you are grossly overstating the difference between 140 and 147 Chino. I don't see.much of a difference between the two version. BTw he got robbed against Kotelnik. No way he kost that fight
I don't think the difference between Chino at 147 and 140 is collosal. I think the difference between Chino under Garcia vs before is collosal. Chino before had rudimental skills, but massive power. As he moved up, he lost some of his power and his chin probably got worse, but he trained with Garcia and got himself some neat skills. Nothing crazy, but he learnt how to cut the ring off better, and best use his (then, waining at the weight) physical attributes. I think he was more flawed and susceptible to varying styles at 140, but better vs who he thrived against. Whereas he was more complete at 147, but it wasn't his natural weight. He's like a homeless man's Harada in that regard IMO. Anyway, I think Maidana probably wins this one, but I wouldn't put a penny either way. I have more faith in Maidana getting off first, and getting up from what Fuji lands, than I do vice versa. Fuji absolutely sparkling him isn't out the question either. Someone who completely shut out by Devon Alexander has no chance vs Locche.
Edit: missed your point in my first reply to you. But I disagree that there was a colossal difference between him under Garcia and him before. There was a few subtle differences, but he was pretty much the same fighter imo
I should clarify. I don't think the differences are huge, I think the effect on how he deals with different styles is huge. Once he moved up, he lost a step in terms of raw physicality. I think being smaller, not having the same kind of firepower he had at 140, as well as being less than granite jawed, hurts him vs the best brawlers/swarmers, etc; at 147. Which is who I think he performs best vs at 140. But just learning the basics and knowing when to duck/jab, how to cut off the ring, and shorten his punches on the inside (and elongate them on the outside) is why he does better vs out-boxers post-Garcia IMO. Look at how he did vs Alexander compared to how he did vs Mayweather. Massive improvements in some areas, gaps/losses in others.
Yes but Alexander didn't really fought like PBF, plus was a southpaw. I'm not sure we can glean a lot by comparing these two performances
I'd favor Maidana, as I think his attack was faster and more unpredictable and he demonstrated more resilience in winning tough battles.
He also may have settled into the weight a bit better over time. But he definitely didn't look comfortable when he first moved up vs. Alexander.
