Maybe he's not ready for Crawford craftiness but I'd pick him over the rest of the welterweights. He's a bigger faster version of Crawford and if he has a good chin he won't be losing for a while

I like Joe Smith. Comes to fight. Has no real talent, deserves a medal for retiring HopPeds. Entertaining bomber. And he's Irish Joe Smith, none of this Josesito Torito Bonito Lupito Rosito BS.

As I was saying, Bookies offered £3 for every £10 you put on Ennis. Maybe I should have taken it. But there you have it.

Fuck it, I would take Ennis over Spence and Bud right now. Those two have lost the hunger that a young cat like Ennis has.

Of course he is. He just beat Cherry Garcia and he's likely gonna face Ugas in July.

I have some doubt that the killer Spence was in his mid 20s is returning.

He's more of a diva now.

Ennis has the fire now that Spence had 4-5 years ago.

Plus, in all honesty, Ennis is more physically talented than Spence ever was.

Its funny how quickly tables turn.

2021 Ennis is now 2015 Spence - the division's boogeyman. And just as it was apparent in 2015 that Spence was the best welterweight in the world even without belts, its now apparent Ennis is the best welterweight in the world.

I think Ennis has a long way to go before he has proven to be the best. We have seen countless times how a guy who looks astonishing against good opponents doesn't shine when he faces the best

Ennis was taking about in the post-fight PC: "Anybody who wanna sign on the dotted line ill fight."

Spence and Crawford aren't in that mode anymore. They're more concerned with purse splits.

That's the EXACT same thing people were saying about Spence in 2015. Even though it was apparent to many of us that he was better than the title holders.

Its the same situation now. Only Spence in 2015 hadn't destroyed anybody as solid as Lip.

I agree. Ennis is more fast twitchy and explosive than Spence ever was. He's quicker of hand and foot.

Sure, but way more often it has been "apparent" how some guy is better than everyone, until he met a truly elite opponent. Inoue looked like a clear-cut p4p #1 until he met Donaire. Prograis seemed clearly the best at 140, and so forth. Jarred Hurd. And also remember how excited you were about Munguia after his destruction of Ali.

Mind you, Lipinets already clearly lost to Mikey and was fighting above his best weight.

Lol. You and JOM always bring up that Munguia shit, when I admit I made a knee jerk reaction to him. It happens. To everybody.

Ennis isn't knee jerk, as Neil, REED and I were I believe the first 3 posters on here to tout him, several years ago.

Prograis always appeared likely the best junior welter, but I'd also remind you that I was the first one here to mention Josh Taylor, and how he POTENTIALLY could rule 140 day.

As for Inoue, Inoue might very well be the P4P - the Donaire fight doesn't change that.

Given the trajectory of the welterweight division, its looking PROBABLE than Ennis will soon be the best, if he isn't already.

Crawford is in his mid 30s. Spence is no spring chicken, and might not ever be 100% of what he was pre-accident.

Ennis seems like the heir apparent, and its seemed that way a while now.

Oh BTW, I dunno if Danny Garcia is THAT much better than Lipinets at this point. I think it would be a close fight between them.

So Ennis annihilating Lip impresses me more than Spence coasting and outboxing Garcia.

There is nothing wrong at all with knee-jerk reaction, I do it too. Also, Ennis does look superb. I merely disagree with him being already proven #1. Beating Lipinets is not enough for that

I can't find the full fight, so I just watched the highlights. I agree Boots looks very twitchy, fast and talented, moreso than Spence - but he seems to over rely on neckrolls when hit clean. I don't know whether or not that's the extent of his defence, or the last line of it (if it's the latter, that's extremely impressive), but I thought it was worth noting. I'm about to watch vs Alverez for a better view on him.

I didnt say it was proven. I said I would pick him over Bud and Spence, and I stand by it.

He's got the talent, he's got the youth, and he's got the fire... the latter of which Bud and Spence no longer have.. to the degree they once did.

We always did point out that Spence was lacking that Jones/Leonard level of speed and athleticism.

Ennis makes moves naturally that always looked forced for Spence.

Just watching Ortiz vs Vargas to compare the two. These two absolutely fucking destroy Benn.

I have yet to see Connor Benn fight.

If he can't punch like his old man, then I don't see what he offers.

You're not missing much. Entertaining style like his old man, and somewhat talented but he isn't anything special. He won't go very far IMO, but he is fun to watch and very intense outside of the ring.

I've seen three rounds and a two minute clip of Ennis, but I'm definitely interested in seeing more. I liked his long jab, the quick combos (which aren't particularly short, but remind me of Marquez/Crawford) and an entertaining style. Didn't see too much handwork, but his head-movement was very impressive - and he reminded me lots of Canizales when shots got through. I didn't see too skillwise that make me jump out of my seat, but I'd have to see more. Very athletically talented, though.

How bout Ennis vs Ortiz? Do we all agree that if Ennis has a solid chin, that he batters Vergil?

Dunno about that, I think it's competitive whether or not Ennis can take Vergil's best. That cross-counter would be tricky for Ennis' jab IMO, and Ortiz is quite good in setting up his power, as well as just having lots of it. I think his bullishness, jab and good ring-cutting skills give Ennis issues regardless of whether Boots can take his Sunday punch. I don't like that hands down approach vs Ortiz anyway. I am more impressed with what I've seen of Ennis, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion.

But then again, I've seen three rounds of one and ten rounds of the other. I'm no expert on either guy, but I'm definitely more exciting about welter than I ever jabe been before.
