I would rather listen to Lewis over Timmy and Mares.

One thing about Lewis that's a big positive, he never cheerleads or shows bias. He calls things objectively, even if he's very basic.

Bradley offers more insight than Lewis, but its at such an expense because he's INCREDIBLY partial to the house fighters. So gimme Lummox over Timmy the head.

Abner Mares is terrible. Its not just that he replaced Paulie, he's just really bad.

Reminds me of that unfunny fuckin hack Trevor Noah replacing a comedic genius like Jon Stewart.

Porter is pretty decent. He's a lot less biased and annoying than Bradley. I think Bradley "sees" boxing a lot better than Porter, but he's so fuckin annoying that i rather listen to Shawn.

 

Roy, Paulie, Tarver, and Ward are the four best fighter analysts we've ever had.

I actually miss Tarver as an analyst and would take him over Ward. Tarver was less biased than Dre.

There is a difference between these two trades, which I realized only after trying them.

In a blow by blow reporting, voice becomes essential. A guy who has a normal, even nice sound in every day situations, can sound irritating or dull when he speaks continuously.

One part of it is the fact that a microphone "dulls" down nuances. Regular talking sounds monotonous through mic. You don't notice that when you have a picture and you get all the non-verbal messages, as you do in studio.

Furthermore, talking while watching is surprisingly difficult. A guy like Lennox might be able to analyze a fight in a studio, but doing so while watching a fight happen is hard.

In other hand, I don't know is Paulie would stand out as a studio guy. Pointing out the same things he says during fights might sound even simplistic in a studio.

I have thought about this as I noticed that my voice and approach worked better in studio, compared to blow-by-blow

Another point about "company shilling".

I was never contacted by the channel nor the promoters about how I should call a fight. However it does happen very easily that you take sides with the hometown guy, you kind of "know" that it is the correct thing to do. Just like if you work in a store, you probably won't tell the customers what you really think of the products, even if nobody has forbidden you.

As for fans, they usually feel that you are honest, or that you are partial against his favorite. Nobody ever feels that a broadcaster is too biased in favor of your own favorite

 

If broadcasters want boxers to commentate on the fight, they should do what BoxAzteca did with Barrera, and put them on a course for it. If they're still shit, get someone else. Although, the amount of likeable, articulate boxers is diminishing rapidly.

 

Have you called some big fights in Finland, or mostly local level ones?

 

In Finland pretty much everything is 'local' on a world scale, but I have called fights of Robert Helenius, Edis Tatli and Eva Wahlström who are the only international level fighters from the last decade.

From international streams we have done several Sauerland and Matchroom ights and also Floyd vs Berto, but the local channels have nothing to do with them
