My understanding is that he has had issues with anxiety and depression going back to his childhood.

 

That should comport well with a profession that often causes its participants extreme anxiety and depression.

 

Not casting aspersions on your version of events, but how can somebody be both?

The only true way you can be anxious AND depressed is if you are a manic depressive.

I think he's just a zoomer who has cracked under the glare of a self-inflicted social media regimen of likes, clicks, followers, fans, all topped of with the physical pressures of being a professional athlete.

I knew he was a wrong un with all that "I'm a star I'm a star".

This could be a ruse to cash in on the latest burgeoning trend on the victimhood spectrum.

 

I don't mean to sound insensitive, because anxiety/depression is real and affects millions of people. Shit, that includes myself.

But I'm sure there's been COUNTLESS elite boxers in history who have suffered from anxiety/depression and went on with the show. Ryan is not unique.

Again, I probably sound like an asshole, but not really, because I've been through it. I still have to go on with my career everyday and perform, or my family don't eat.

Ryan has a family. If he doesn't fight and perform, they don't eat. I would tell him to man the fuck up.

And that doesn't mean that he shouldn't ADDRESS his depression, because by all means he should.

I mean that society has coddled us to the point where people are made to believe that it's OKAY to let depression put your life on halt. It's not. You're actually letting the condition win imo. You can address depression while still performing your duties as a man.

Only a privileged athlete like Ryan can pull some shit like this.

Imagine Joe Nobody who works in a office telling his boss, "You know that big presentation I'm set to give in front of a client next week? I can't do it. I'm depressed."

 

Yep. And Joe Nobody who might have things infinitely worse medically will be the told to "man up" while the rich famous person will get an outpouring of sympathy. It's similar to drug and alcohol addiction. If it's a poor person they're a disgusting junky who brought things on themselves, while a celebrity will be applauded for being open about it and have people literally praying for them to get treatment.

 

I'm being serious about this, Ryan was recently on Mike's podcast, he should have confided in Tyson off-camera about his depression. I'm sure Mike would have listened to him and given him advice.

 

And lastly, the fuckin idiot shouldn't have let it be KNOWN he has mental health issues.

If you wanna pull out the Fortuna fight because of it, ok cool, but put out a BS story that you're injured or something.

That's why I feel it's for media attention. He could have sought help in private, and simply said he fuckin injured his hand/shoulder or something and has to postpone the fight.

 

True. Nobody here knows whether or not he's seriously suffering from a mental illness but to me this is still a media move. He or his team will use this to talk up "bringing awareness".
