McGirt was a better fighter than Breland, however, I find this matchup very interesting because Breland had some pretty notable physical advantages over McGirt. It's hard to envision Buddy outboxing Breland at distance. He would have to attack him and take him out, but could he do that? It wasn't really his style at 147.
If we take McGirt before the Bermudez fight, I fancy McGirt. That was the fight where he ruptured his bicep and that began his health issues. Before that, coming up from 140, he was on a pretty good run, beating Ayers and Bermudez, who was considered a guy with potential. McGirt could fight inside, hit the body and punch well enough with either hand; I reckon that he was better overall than Aaron Davis by a pretty good step.
