Yeah, atlas was a pure assclown. He's not totally worthless as a trainer, as he did a good job woth moorer and bradley, but he's was too much of an attention whore

Norman Stone deserves a mention. How the hell was that guy a trainer. Like did he actually run a boxing gym?

It's not so much a question of how good a trainer somebody is or isn't. It's a question of their corner work.

Enzo Calzaghe couldn't train frogs to jump but he rarely made any mistakes with Joe. He didn't give him any really dopey advice. He'd tell him to be careful and maintain his confidence without getting too involved in any of Joe's bullshit.

For all we know, Norman Stone and Ruiz had a good enough relationship for Ruiz to wrestle his way into one lucrative payday after another.

If Stone had Steward, he'd have lost long before Roy, cos Manny would have cussed him out and ruined his self belief.

Corner work and training aren't quite the same thing.

McDonnell was at it again 6 years later with Chunky DeGale.

He had a dead man in front of him in the form of George Groves.... every exchange, especially towards the end, it was obvious that had Chunky opened up he'd have done real damage. Groves always wore down in fights.

But McDonnell never really urged Chunky to just go and do it.

Then when it was over he started dancing when the Emcee said "and still undefeated" because he'd forgotten both men had gone into the fight unbeaten.

    Moron.

Jack Mosley wasn't the greatest corner guy, although to be fair, he doesn't belong. Theres been much worse.

Just saying, a great trainer could have gotten more out of Mosley. But Jack trained him to a HOF career, so overall he succeeded.

My recollection of Vargas was that the Tito fight took it all out of him.... But I can't remember how the forum had called it either. With Hindsight, Vargas should have been a wide underdog. It played out they coukd have fought that fight 5 times and I wouldn't give it to Vargas.

That's it. Sometimes a guy just needs basic instruction and reassurance.

Ronnie Shields in Tyson-Lewis although I thought Steward was great in Lewis' corner.

Teddy Atlas in every fight ever?
