If you could make one matchup between these four, which would it be? Duran Chavez Pac Pryor There's no literally no wrong answer here, as any of them would have been epic fights.
I probably go Pac vs Duran, then match Pryor vs Chavez. Pac is the only one of the three with a legitimate chance of beating Duran. I dont think there's many, if any, who believe Pryor or Chavez could beat Duran. Pryor-Chavez is probably the most debatable matchup between them, and it remains one of the most talked about MMs among hardcores. Theres equally compelling arguments to be made for Aaron or JCC winning.
To watch live i'd go with Pacquiao-Pryor. No idea if it would be the best fight after all is said and done. Probably has the most chance of high level action combined with constant swings in momentum.
I dont mean to be harsh on Chavez, as I'm actually a very big JCC fan, but I suspect Chavez loses to all three. The other three can match him for stamina, while being just too quick and dynamic for him.
I think Pryor-Pac has the potential to be really one sided in Pacquiao's favour. However, it'd be an extremely wild fight whether it went 15 seconds or 15 rounds. Chavez vs Pryor would be insane. Pryor has all of the things which Taylor had which made that such a great fight; plus the fact that he wouldn't move out after a combo. He'd be there for Chavez to hit back.
I cant see any of these matchups being one sided. Pryor-Chavez is the most evenly matched though. Simply because those two are generally viewed as lower level than Duran and Pac.
I think it's styles why Pryor-Pac would be one-sided. Too much power and speed vs too little defence. Could be over early-ish.
I also think Pryor-Chavez is the most compelling because it's a natural at 140 - there's no question mark over what weight class it would take place in. It has that sense of history - two of the best ever in the weight class going up against each other to define their relative greatness as junior welterweights. Chavez v Pac - is it at 130, 135 or 140? Duran v Chavez - presumably 135 but then that slants things very firmly in Duran's favour (but probably any weight class does) Pryor was at 140 so any match with him is there. Duran v Pac - again, 135 it's all in favour of Duran but 140 to 147 then it becomes more interesting possibly. We were debating the relative merits of Chavez-Taylor and Pryor-Arguello but I do think Chavez-Pryor has the potential to be greater than both of those and I say that as someone who has long held Pryor-Arguello 1 as the best fight I've ever seen.
