I don't think Usyk wins a round unless Fury let's him, being totally honest. I'm a fan of Usyk, I think he's fantastic, but it's a mismatch imo.
Grant was an appreciably better infighter than AJ, and had better stamina. He most likely gets sparked inside of 6, but if he's still standing by then, I wouldn't be shocked if he grinded AJ down. This guy made a complete bum like Andy look like 88 Tyson. He's no lock over ANY... ONE.
Grant never showed better stamina than AJ did in the Ruiz II and Pulev fights. Joshua spent 12 rounds constantly moving vs Ruiz and then 11 moving and power punching vs Pulev. He also never showed an inside game as lethal as the one Joshua showed vs Povetkin. Grant has no chance against Joshua. No chance short of lucky punch. Ruiz would fucking ruin Grant.
I'd pick Ruiz over Grant. I don't think Grant was a better infighter at all dude, he is never landing that uppercut against Wlad for a start. Grant always looked really sloppy and open to me. I'm no big fan of AJ or anything but I think you're doing him a big disservice by comparing him to Michael Grant.
Fair play mate. That's what makes this such a great sport. But a mismatch? Come off it. I'm a HUGE Fury fan. He is one of those "lazy" boxers. His hands down, reliant on reflexes and those old school skills, put him head and shoulders above the rest of the division. But a pure hands up boxer with the ludicrous skills of Usyk, non stop head movement and erotic footwork would be a fucking nightmare for him. You can see it now Slice... hands down, conditioned to think he can avoid those jabs... he is getting tagged to fuckery. don't have the eloquence of an Irish ... but I've I know what I'm talking about lad. I've done it. You know what I'm saying right? The reason why people pick Ali to struggle with Holmes... to a much lesser degree and a lazier example... Hamed Barerra. I think Fury gives away way too many punches and way too.many rounds.... think Cunningham x1000
It's all good matey, debate is the very core of being a boxing fan. So on that note I ask you, how does Usyk get inside on Fury, and furthermore, how does he stay there and win the rounds? I can't see it, if I'm honest with you. Usyk is not just fighting a guy with all the physical advantages, he's fighting a guy with all the physical advantages WHO CAN BOX. Fury is not going to be dropping rounds the same way AJ was tonight, he's going to be busy, he's going to be throwing and landing, and he can match Usyk in the footwork department to boot.
I just love switch-hitters, man. I really do, it's why Crawford and Fury are my favourite guys in the sport right now. Crawford is disappointing, in terms of competition, but Fury seems to be willing to take anyone on. So I have no doubt he will take on these guys and prove me right before too long.
Not sure Grant lost his nerve vs Lewis. He said he was going to go right at Lewis pre fight and that turned out to be his actual gameplan I think.
I think Usyk would beat him. He is more than capable of hurting Fury. He has way better coordination and overall skill. Fury is insanely overrated right now.
I agree that Fury is an insanely overrated fighter. His fans get defensive when I say that, as if I'm saying he can't fight. He can fight, but he's being measured against AJ and Wilder, both of whom are trash. His fans talk about him in a historical sense, and I can't co-sign it. Not only does he not compare to the true greats, I'll be honest... a prime Vitali would beat ten shades of shit outta Fury. I like him as a person, I think he's cool as Hell, I would love to have a drink with him. As a fighter I find his fanbase overrates him beyond belief.
Credit to Usyk though. The man has more substance to him than another Ukrainian southpaw. Although, I do wanna put in perspective.. Teofimo has actual boxing talent. Joshua doesn't.
What's insanely overrated is Roy winning the HW title. Ruiz had to be the worst champ in history. Yes even worst than Ruiz imo. Usyk beating AJ a big strong puncher is a real feat unlike Roy beating that bum Ruiz. This was a legit win.
John Ruiz beats Joshua. As easily as he did McCline. In fact, probably easier as McCline had a much better chin. Joshua has to be the worst boxer that was ever hyped as some kind of A talent. Awful, awful fighter.
Nice try simp, but Roy is an all time great independent of the winning the heavyweight title. Roy is also a SIGNIFICANTLY smaller man than Usyk, so it's an asinine comparison, which is unsurprising considering it's you. Everything you say is pretty asinine. A 5'10-ish light heavyweight who peaked at 168 winning any kind of heavyweight title tends to garner more attention than a cruiserweight who's 6'3 doing so. So, try again.
Didnt see that.one coming. If usyk also beats fury, a relatively small hw would be the top dog at hw. Would completely change how we see.the.importance of size at hw
I feel bad for poor Tua. If ever a guy was around in the wrong era, it's Tua. Tua would have big issues with Fury, but he would absolutely execute AJ and Wilder.
At this point,.i think its rather evident that aj is not a lot more than a hype job. I defended him after the ruiz lost, but his performance against Usyk clearly shows he's not very good
No one would care if he was ordinary guy. However, he's the biggest global star in the sport along with Nelo. Difference being, Nelo is an actual elite fighter. AJ is the shittiest superstar the sport has ever had. I can't think of one worse. Traditionally, the true megastars of our sport have been very good to great fighters. Joshua is the sport's first megastar who's pretty damn shitty.
Call me nostalgic all you want, but it's 100% factual that AJ is a fringe-level guy 25 years ago. If he was around in 96, he'd be a guy who either Tyson or Lewis would spark inside of 2, then you'd never hear about him again. In 2021, they turn him into a star...
What's most alarming about AJ is how truly fucking HORRIBLE his defense is. I would argue that even Wilder is less defensively inept. Wilder has zero defensive skill, but he does have athleticism, so he can get out of the way of punches every now and then. AJ isn't even athletic. He has an athletic LOOKING body, but he's not an athletic fighter. Stiff as a fuckin board.
AJ beat Vlad so it's crazy to say he's worst than John Ruiz . AJ was a very good victory for Usyk. He was an underdog against a big hw with legit power. Unlike Jones beating a sloppy mauler/ hacker that would basically low blow and wrestle his way to boring victories in Ruiz. He was never in any danger. The great Evander Holyfield is another CW that became a hw champ. So Usyk is in good company. Like I said a legit win. Ruiz was a tomato can. Both the Mexican and Puerto Rican Ruiz.
He has good hands, but his movement is terrible. Hence why he so often look lost in there. Ive said it during the Povetkin fight, that if AJ wanted to be great, he has to turn into a kind of Hw Matthew Saad Mohamed. Well maybe not that extreme, but he had to fight as a slugger. He doesn't have the movement to be a good boxer, his defense is too leaky.and his chin not great. But if he can sucker his foe into a brawl, he jas good enough speed and power to have a chance against pretty much anyone. Unfortunately, that's also.a.very dangerous proposition for him considering the aforementioned lack of chin and defense. I think that the Ruiz lost also took out a bit of his heart. Not sure he would have gotten out as passively against Usyk before the ruiz fiasco
Yeah, but what in the Hell does Roy have anything at all to do with this thread? The only reason I can think of you bringing Jones into the equation is because I'm a Jones fan. Other than that, the fuck does he have to do with any of this? Roy should be compared to light heavyweights who pulled the feat, like Spinks. Usyk would have beaten Roy, btw. Not because he's the better fighter in a P4P sense, but he's way too big for Jones, WHILE being a great fighter. So once again.... the fuck does Roy have to do with this topic?
Wilder defense is not too bad. In fact, he moves around very well and use his size to avoid getting hit. Problems are his absolutely clueless when he can't use his size.to evade (see Fury2) ,. and he's also very vulnerable when he goes on the offensive
